I was wondering what the laws were while fishing on a boat and from shore while open or concealed carrying . I couldnt really find anything about it online. So if somebody can direct me where to go to find the info it would appreciated.

If you are in the confines of Virginia, you are in public I guess.

I would assume that normal rules apply....not sure though.

I would advise caution on the Potomac river if you fish there. State boundary is the river and you could find yourself behind enemy lines.

Also have to be aware of whether you are in a State Park (Lake Anna, etc).

Virginia State Parks website says "Firearms: Law enforcement officers and those with a concealed weapons permit may carry firearms. During hunts, hunters may have firearms, which should be unloaded and properly stored when outside designated hunt areas. Target shooting is prohibited. Air guns are prohibited. "

Can someone without a CHP OC in a State Park? I don't see why not unless there is a specific law covering it that I'm not aware of or not thinking about at the moment.

The VCDL had a picnic in a state park near Hillsville ( i forgot the name of the park) a couple of years ago and it was CC only, no open carry.

A concealed or OC handgun with a permit is fine, but something like a shotgun you best have non-lead bird shot in it. The hunting regulations are your biggest concern. The carrying of firearms in the woods or on water is very restricted so the game wardens can arrest or fine you even if they do not catch you with game or shooting at game.
