2. VCDL pre-Lobby Day membership meeting in Charlottesville
*********************************************************
From EM Pat Webb:
On Tuesday, January 13, 2015 RRPC their first VCDL meeting of 2015. This may be the most important meeting of the year because we will be discussing strategy for Lobby Day, January 19, 2015.
Lobby Day is the single most important event that VCDL organizes. We form groups and hand-deliver a legislative packet to every Delegate in the General Assembly. This packet outlines VCDL’s position on all firearms related bills introduced in the General Assembly, but more importantly it explains WHY a bill is good or bad. Most of your representatives really appreciate this. They also respect the fact that you, a busy private citizen, took time out of your schedule to voice your opinion in person! Participation is easy, even if you have never done anything like this before. You will be paired with an experienced group leader and the guided step by step. This is your chance to influence the fate of Virginia gun owners!
Please mark your calendar for both the VCDL meeting on 1/13 and Lobby Day on 1/19.
We will begin the VCDL meeting with a potluck dinner at 6:30 PM, followed by the meeting from 7:00—9:00. Bring your family, friends and neighbors. As always, the main course and drinks will be provided. If you can bring a side dish to share please do. If you can’t, don’t worry there will be plenty to eat! We hope to see you there!
Again we thank RRPC for their continued hospitality and support!
Where: Rivanna Rifle & Pistol Club (RRPC)
1570 Old Lynchburg Road
Charlottesville, VA
Directions: From I-64, take exit 120 South (5th Street Exit), go 4 miles to range on the right

Meeting 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
RSVP if attending dinner to:
Pat.Webb@vcdl.org
Include meeting date and the number eating in the subject line. (i.e. 1/13 meeting 3 for dinner).

3. Article on Governor McAuliffe's gun control push

Governor McAuliffe Vows to Stick to His Gun Control Measures
By Tommie McNeil
Despite criticism from gun-rights advocates and GOP legislative leaders, Governor McAuliffe is not retreating on a package of gun-control measures that he has proposed for the upcoming General Assembly session. McAuliffe says this was one of his campaign promises, so no one should be surprised.
Conservatives say the Governor is catering to the anti-gun agenda of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose Super PAC donated to his campaign. But McAuliffe says this is about keeping people safe.
The Governor proposes prohibiting anyone subject to a protective order or convicted of certain misdemeanor offenses from owning a gun. Those include brandishing a firearm, domestic assault, and stalking.
But Philip Van Cleave with the Virginia Citizens Defense League says that's not how the law should be interpreted.
And Van Cleave says taking away someone's gun rights for a protective order could force someone who is divorcing an abusive spouse to be left without a means of self-protection.
The Governor also proposes reverting back to Virginia's "One-Handgun-a-Month" law, which was recently repealed. He says criminals exploit it and run guns out-of-state.
And McAuliffe wants to revoke the concealed-carry permits of those who are delinquent on child-support payments. Van Cleave scoffs at that.
Gun-control advocates say since Congress has failed to act, state-level proposals like McAuliffe's are needed. They would also like localities to implement their own gun-control measures, including limiting magazine capacity and restricting military weapons. Gun-rights advocates say many new laws are redundant, don't dissuade those with criminal intent, and are often crafted by people with limited knowledge about what they're banning and the laws that are already on the books.

4. Larry Pratt added to speaker list at Lobby Day
*********************************************************
Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, now joins David Codrea and Emily Miller as a speaker at the VCDL Lobby Day rally on Monday, January 19th.
*********************************************************
5. Pro-gun/anti-gun bills are starting to be filed
*********************************************************
Here's a sampling of the bills that are being introduced this year in the General Assembly.
Good bills:
Delegate Mark Berg: College Carry for all CHP holders, state-agency preemption
Delegate Bob Marshall: Allows certain individuals to carry on K-12 school property, faculty carry at colleges/universities
Senator Carrico, Delegate Cole: Forfeiture of property law improvement to only allow forfeiture after a person has been actually convicted and any appeals exhausted
Senator Black: Lifetime CHPs, prohibition of K-12 schools asking students about guns kept at home
Delegate Campbell: Lifetime CHPs
Delegate Lee Ware: Recognition of CHPs from all other states. This will give us Georgia, New Hampshire and Colorado once it becomes law
Bad bills:
Senator Marsden: The perfunctory "Gun show loophole" bill
Senator McEachin: The annual "Universal Background Check" bill
Delegate Danny Marshall, a virtual ban on Tannerite (cannot be detonated within ONE MILE of a dwelling)
--
More bills will be pouring in over the next couple of weeks. Soon we will be providing details on the gun-related bills, which will be updated as we approach Lobby Day on January 19th.

6. Orange stickers everywhere! (We hope)

We are about to finalize a deal with the printer so that the stickers can be offered to other organizations, not only at rock bottom prices, but also with an option to personalize the web address at no additional cost.
The deal should be complete by mid January. So, if you know of someone in need, please have them contact the Fulfillment Center by email.
