RIP Mario Cuomo.

Mario Cuomo passed away the other night. He was a 3 term governor of New York state, he was the "Progressive" voice during the Reagan years.

And I wish him peace because without Mario Cuomo, I would not have become a conservative.

In my youth, I would read everything, all sides, written by liberals and conservatives. Finding myself siding with Conservatives more often than not, I DID find people on the Liberal side with whom I respected for putting their thoughts into prose that weren't insulting.

Strangely enough Charles Krauthammer came to MY SIDE during the Reagan years, but Mario Cuomo, though I disagreed with him, I could read his side, and see his train of thought.

So I disliked his positions, but thought the man was well spoken. There are few like that now.

It goes like this quote from an article on Yahoo, about Jim Webb:
"Go to any activist meeting or liberal dinner party, and chances are you will hear a pretty consistent narrative to explain this trend. Basically, it goes like this: White men, and especially Southern white men, are just inherently racist and afraid of social change, and so they’re easily manipulated by Republicans and have turned their backs on Obama. But that’s really OK, because the demographics of the country are rapidly shifting, and very soon there will be enough black and Latino voters — not to mention women of all races — to tip the balance of any national election into the Democratic column."

RIP Mario Cuomo. You will be missed as a worthy opponent.

Closer to home - Former Warrenton Mayor George Fitch died Dec-30. He was probably best known for forming The Jamaican Bobsled team portrayed in the movie Cool Runnings. He way played by John Candy.

The Cuomo family is busily continuing its legacy of bleeding NY dry to this day.
