No hats in this house (that I'll openly admit), but I don't subscribe to the Elf of the Shelf because it's a damn waste of money.

The Santa song is a song. The Shelf Elf is, presumably, a tangible, physical spy.
Not that I don't find the Santa song creepy. It is.

Ok. But, you lead your children to believe that the thing is observing their actions and reporting them back to someone in some position of authority.
Sort of like when I told a coworker that our delivery van had a camera in it, and I showed him where it was. Of course, I made it up. But it was believable to him, and he conducted himself accordingly.

So no XBox Kinnect or Amazon Echo in your homes either. Those things are actually watching and listening to you. Who knows how many people have access to that data stream?
