I've been wanting to replace the fixed (and welded on) skeleton stock on my VEPR 12 shotgun. The late models won't accept an AK-style stock so I had to wait for someone to design an adapter. Carolina Shooters Supply has done just that.

I also added a Tapco SAW grip, because big hands

Vendor(s):

Magpul
DPH Arms
Tapco

Parts:

Magpul M4 "Commercial" Stock
Magpul M4 Castle Nut
DPH Arms "Commercial" 6-position Buffer Tube
Tapco SAW Grip

Tools needed:
Dremel with cut-off wheel, to remove weld on factory folding stock.
Various punches
Big Hammer
Bigger Hammer
File to clean up receiver area around weld

Disassembly and reassembly went pretty much as outlined in instructions. Whoever welded the factory stock to the receiver got a bit carried away, but it just required a little more cutting and grinding with the Dremel. Overall, not too bad of an install. Total install time about an hour, but I work kind of slow.

You have to reuse the factory hinge latch located inside the skeleton stock. This part has a spring under it, so several minutes were spent crawling around on the floor to find the latch after it launched itself across the room. Next time, I'll cover it with a rag before removing the lock pin.

You may need to click on attached pictures to view full size. I still need a bit of touch up paint on the bottom of the receiver where the weld was ground off.

Nice job. I am really tempted to get one of these shotguns.

Just remember VA prohibits use of 12+ round drum with a folding stock.

The magwell prevents me from using a drum. I also put a magwell on my Saiga12 so I guess I'll be selling my MD Arms 20 round drum soon.

Does the Saiga with the magwell take Vepr mags?

The Saiga12 & VEPR12 mags, while both made by SGM Tactical, are not interchangeable.

After looking around a little bit I found out that Izhmash mags made for Saigas with factory magwells will fit Veprs also. The downside? Each mag cost over $100...when available.

I like the idea of common mags but not at that price. Now with the Russian imports banned, I doubt an American company will take on the R&D to develop a common mag.

I put a JT Engineering magwell on my Saiga12, so I have to use modified mags from SGM Tactical. I also installed one of their extended mag releases.

At the bottom of that page it says he is working on a VEPR magwell for Saigas. Very cool.
