Dr Ben Carson prepares to throw his hat into the ring

I don't care how many times he walks back his naive comments on gun control, Ben Carson's 2016 GOP bid is a non-starter. Bring on Jeb Bush, you guys!

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to be sick now. :ill:

Jeb Bush? Are you serious? Why not just fire all the border patrol and ICE agents and tell the Mexicans they can come over any time they want.

Spare me.

Carson is, without question, one of the best neurosurgeons on the planet. He has spent his life achieving greatness in that field, and has passed on that knowledge. His foray into politics is very similar, in my view, to his first year of residency. He has a lot to learn, and, I am afraid, not enough time to learn it all. I am certain he has not, during his medical career, given much thought to the 2A and gun control issues. Carson's big problem now is his political evolution. He will change his position on some issues slightly and will be jumped on about those changes as a "waffler." He may make it to the primaries. That remains to be seen.

Jeb Bush is a seasoned politician who represents the unprecedented third member of a political dynasty that may make it to the WH. I have two HUGE problems with JB. He supports a squishy immigration policy, and he supports Common Core. This is his statement at the 25th anniversary of his fathers library:
"There are means by which we can control our border better than we have. And there should be penalties for breaking the law," he added. "But the way I look at this -- and I'm going to say this, and it'll be on tape and so be it. The way I look at this is someone who comes to our country because they couldn’t come legally, they come to our country because their families -- the dad who loved their children -- was worried that their children didn’t have food on the table. And they wanted to make sure their family was intact, and they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family. Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It’s an act of love. It’s an act of commitment to your family. I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime that there should be a price paid, but it shouldn’t rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families."
Crossing the border illegally is not a different kind of felony. It's a felony. There is no grey area. It's a black and white issue. This doesn't depend on what "is" is.

Common core is a major problem for me and one reason I will NEVER vote for Jeb. The government is not authorized, under the Constitution, to be involved in education. The fed has effed up education so badly it has caused millions to refuse to participate. If federally regulated education is so good, why then have millions pulled their children out of the public indoctrination system? Alternatives that include private school and home-schooling have gained huge favor among parents. Charter schools are nothing more than turd shining. If you take public money you deal with the strings that are attached.

Jeb should stick to Florida and leave me alone.

I like Carson but it sounds like you're "giving him an out" on the gun control issue by saying his position will evolve. The fact that he was raised by his mother in a poor urban community you would think would have shaped his beliefs on gun control. And shape them it has. He has no problem with guns in rural areas but has problems with guns in cities and has said so knowing the spotlight was on him as a potential 2016 candidate. That's a direct reflection on the environment that helped shape that belief and I don't look to see that position changing for an election.

The question is how he's going to cram his square peg belief into the round hole of the Republican platform and if there's enough about him that people like to get him past the primaries. I would find it interesting if he ran as a Democrat. Sure there are some things they wouldn't like about Carson too, but there may just be enough votes to get him the nod and would be an upgrade from Hillary.

Only if conservatives buck up their courage, avoid sitting down or checking out, and become active in the primary selection process NOW will we get the candidate who will represent us, rather than a hack from the "Progressive" wing of the GOP. There isn't a week to lose.

Time to join your local committee and start doing things and making noise.

I think the best way to torpedo the Bushes of the world is to lay out their similarities to the Dems - explain why their policies are exactly like the corrupt schemes of the Demorat party.

Didn't intend to come across that way, but I see your point. Maybe his position on 2A is as squishy as Jeb's on immigration. That remains to be seen. I like him too, except for his 2A stance. I think a lot of people will back him because he isn't the same old re-hashed politicians we're used to seeing. Kind of like an unintentional smokescreen.

@Firemanbob - you speak the truth. Making noise is the key to shaping the primary season. It is so much more than "one man - one vote." If you don't make your voice heard you will likely never get the chance to vote for the candidate of your choice.

I'd make him Secretary of Health and Human Services; that's about it.

I agree with Swampman.....I cannot vote for anyone that supports Common Core. Common Core is worse than "No Child Left Behind" and that is bad.

If I was to take the helm. I would drop all departments and put this guy as white house chief of staff just to piss people off and so I could get people to want to work with me...lol
