Customized MOE Stock on DMR

Post by MarcSpaz »

I really like the MOE adjustable stock. It is my favorite AR butt-stock. Minor drawback is, I couldn't mount a mono-pod to it... until now.

I got a Magpul Pic rail and mounted it to the butt-stock. I also got a cheek riser. I think with the exception of paint, which will be done later this week, the AR10 is done.

One of the things I love about modular guns is the ease of modifications. Instead of having one Patrol rifle and one Dedicated Marksman Rifle, I can have one rifle with multiple configuration options.

Here is the AR10 in a Patrol configuration...

And here is the rifle in the DMR config...

A few closer shots of the custom work on the butt-stock.

I know this is an old post.. but I really love the way your rifle turned out! I really want to mount a monopod to my Magpul MOE stock like you did.. what rail piece did you use to attach it? Was it hard to attach? thanks!

I tossed the bag a long time ago. I don't recall off the top... but I do remember it was a bag with several rail pieces in it. Next time I am at Quantico Tactical, I'll see if I can get the part number for you.

I ended up switching to a LaRue Tactical POD (Prone Optimization Device). it works much better, though the looks aren't as nice.

This is what the stock looks like now...

Lookin' Nice.. Thanks for the reply.. Does the LaRue seem more stable? I do like the minimal look of your first custom job, but I assume you must of swapped it out for a reason.. I see LaRue also makes a "RISR" cheek rest that will work with this stock..

I see you have a new scope on there also.. nice..

Thanks for the kudos! I appreciate it.

I swapped to the LaRue because with the one I made, even with a long mono-pod, I could not get the point of aim to tilt down far enough. The closest I could get it was on a zero plain with the surface it was resting on. At first i didn't think it was a big deal, but when I was shooting bench rest instead of prone, it became an issue of not being able to get the point of aim low enough.

I tried to modify the mono-pod, but I could not do anything that was easily repeatable that did not require heavily machining the mono-pod.

The picture of the rifle I posted on Wednesday is a completely different rifle than in the original posts. Its actually my SIG 516 (M4 Clone) with the same stock on it. That scope is pretty cool. Its a Burris XTR II on and American Defense QD scope mount.
