Just curious - for all those in the vicinity of the 757, where do you put rounds downrange?

When I was in Williamsburg, I used to go to Charles City to that wildlife management area. I think it's called Chickahominy?
That was before they started requiring a hunting license. Also, long guns only.

Next week for me will be taking Basic Pistol, Practical Pistol, and Rifle on Base Portsmouth. Other than qualifying every 6 months I haven't really found anywhere that I'd like to be a regular with. I'm waiting to check out CSA in Va Beach though. I really liked their shop & range in Richmond.

ORS - I'm definitely anxious to go. I've been swamped lately by these house projects for the incoming mini-me that's due the first week in December.
Hopefully once the princess is born I can get away from projects for a week or two and return the the range regularly instead of the scheduled Uncle Sam visits I have to do.

I'm also looking for a good place, CSA in Richmond was nice but far. A friend of mine liked MCCS Camp Allen Weapons Range in Norfolk but unfortunately is down for repairs, looking forward to it reopening and checking it out. I do wish to find a nice outdoor range at least an hour within the 757.

The new CSA on the Boulevard is really nice! Highly recommend this place. Everyone was friendly. In addition to that, they have range instructor in each range. That was real nice.

MrJog I've heard great things about Layfeyette but I hear they are no longer taking new members and you need a sponsor?

I used to shoot at Camp Allen, but shortly before they had their fire that has had them closed for over a year, they banned pretty much all Russian ammo. I have WAY too much invested in Russian ammo, so I didn't renew my membership. I joined the Airfield Shooting Club in Wakefield. It is nice and offers a lot of shooting options (rifle/pistol/shotgun), but is kind of a long haul to get there. I've been a couple of times, but the long drive to and from has made it not worth the cost of joining, at least for me. I have since joined CSA. A bit pricier than Camp Allen, but it's a very nice facility, the staff have all been very pleasant, and it's not too far to drive from anywhere on the Southside. Camp Allen was pretty nice as well, and inexpensive. It looks like they may be reopening soon.

I'm a member of Norfolk County Rifle Range (
http://www.ncrr.net) off Military Hwy near Bowers Hill. We were just awarded the NRA 2014 Donn C. DiBiasio Outstanding Club award! While our range is not open to the public for general shooting, we do have several events every month. All events ARE open to the public.
We have IDPA competitions every other Friday, Trap every Tuesday and Sunday, Tactical Shotgun on Saturdays, Bullseye (my favorite) every Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, Ruger Rimfire and Dixie Wheel Gunners (more relaxed version of IDPA) on Wednesday evenings, several archery events, High Power Rifle events (held at other ranges such as Academi since I-64 took our rifle range many years ago) and more. We are probably the most active club around Hampton Roads, maybe in Virginia. Check out our calendar for all the events.
Our membership cost is probably one of the lowest around but the waiting list is sometimes long. You can usually find our booth at the gun shows in Va. Beach and Hampton.
Our monthly general meetings are the 1st Thursday of the month and are open to the public. You are welcome to come visit. Our atmosphere is constantly being heralded as the most inviting and safe around.
This isn't meant to be a shameless plug for our range - we just enjoy shooting with like minded gun enthusiasts.

Heard another member of NCRR talking about them while at CSA not too long ago. Might check it out when my life slows down. Seriously considering checking out IDPA as well; apparently there's a lot of those matches happening there.

One of my shipmates on my cutter goes to the NCRR IDPA matches regularly. He invited me out there for tomorrows match but the wife filled my calendar to the brim this week haha. I've heard a lot of good things of the range though.

I belong to Lafayette. I have since 1999. I don't think we're taking new memberships right now, we're full.

I am a member of Lafayette gun club, and also C2 Shooting Range in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach. Lafayette is currently closed for new memberships. However C2 is a public range for pistol and rifle. Ranges go from 15 yards to 300 yards, is open daily from 10 AM except on Sunday - opens at 12 PM on Sunday. They have a permanent range officer, so that's not a problem. You can pay by the hour, or purchase a one year membership. Their web site is
http://www.thec2center.com Great place so shoot, never any problems, they have a pro-shop with reloading supplies (powder, bullets, primers), factory ammo, targets, accessories, etc. You can not drive directly to the shooting area - you must walk through their building. So if you have a lot of gear, get something to carry it in that has wheels. If you want to get a membership and belong to another gun club in this area, let them know.

I have had very good luck at Superior Gun and Pawn on Virginia Beach Blvd near town center Va Beach. They only allow pistol calibers, but the staff is polite, courteous, and helpful. Parking in front or in back is plentiful. I've also been to A&P Arms across from the Lynnhaven Mall in Va Beach when I want to shoot AR-15. I'm not a big fan of Bob's Gun Shop's range in Norfolk, but it isn't a place I avoid.
