I've been reading through the VA Hunting Regs trying to determine if OC is permitted on Wildlife Management Areas. Its a bit confusing.

Regulations Specific to National Forest and Game Department Lands

It shall be unlawful to have in possession a bow, crossbow, or any firearm which is not unloaded and cased or dismantled on all National Forest lands statewide, or on Department-owned lands and on lands managed by the Department under cooperative agreement in counties west of the Blue Ridge Mountains except during the period when it is lawful to take bear, deer, grouse, pheasant, quail, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, turkey or waterfowl on these lands; and on Department-owned lands and on lands managed by the Department under cooperative agreement in counties east of the Blue Ridge Mountains except during the period when it is lawful to take bear, deer, grouse, pheasant, quail, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl or migratory game birds on these lands. (See exception for valid concealed handgun permit holders.)


Valid Concealed Handgun Permit Holders May:

* Possess a concealed handgun during the archery and muzzleloader seasons. Such handguns may not be used to shoot any wild animals during these seasons.
* Possess a concealed handgun on National Forest and Department lands during the closed season.
* Possess and transport a loaded concealed handgun in or on any vehicle on National Forest and Department lands.



So what do you think? Does this mean:
A. Those that don't hold a CCP cannot OC during any hunting season
B. Those that don't hold a CCP can only OC during firearms season
C. Those that don't hold a CCP can OC during any season (archery, muzzleloader, firearms)
D. Those that do hold a CCP cannot OC during any hunting season, only CC.
E. Those that do hold a CCP can only OC during firearms season, all other seasons must be CC
F. Those that do hold a CCP can OC during any hunting season?

I typically OC during the warmer archery season, when a heavy jacket isn't comfortable. Otherwise, my revolver is tucked under my jacket on an OWB holster. I can't tell by the verbiage above if I'm breaking any laws/regulations. What do you think?

I think it means exactly what it says and I only CC when on a WMA.

Here's the deal. Say you are bowhunting or muzzleloader hunting on a WMA, you may only carry concealed. During regular firearm hunting season you can open carry or conceal, your choice.

I was hunting blackpowder with a good friend of mine and a game warden friend in the mountians of western Va a few years back. As we were NOT close to anything, a large black bear came very close to us (too close). My friend pulled out his 44 mag, the bear turned and moved away without any problem. The GW said you know your not suppose to have that don't you? friend said do you really want to argue that point after that!
GW said no, it's a stuipd law and no one should be out here armed with a single shot rifle!
I agree and I won't go without a backup. You never know when your going to be surprized out in the woods by a bears, rabid wild game or other
