Long Arms in Vehicles?

IIRC, in your trunk is fine. In the cabin, I think it depends on whether it is hunting season. There's a law against loaded long guns in a vehicle during hunting season. I guess it's to discourage shooting from the vehicle. That's what turned me off a lever-action for a truck gun. Besides, the AR holds more and shoots faster.
Why the trunk? When the hoodrat army shows up, are you going to ask them to wait a sec while you get it out of the trunk?

Concealability I guess. I figure if I'm already in my vehicle I'm just driving through them.
if I'm away from my vehicle I have a sidearm to get me there....if I'm near my vehicle shouldn't take more than a second or two to pop the trunk...the HRA isn't exactly stealthy after all.
In all honesty the need to fend off 100+ Sons of Obama never figured into my tactical considerations. Flying blind here.

ยง 15.2-915.2. Regulation of transportation of a loaded rifle or shotgun.
The governing body of any county or city may by ordinance make it unlawful for any person to transport, possess or carry a loaded shotgun or loaded rifle in any vehicle on any public street, road, or highway within such locality. Any violation of such ordinance shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $100. Conservation police officers, sheriffs and all other law-enforcement officers shall enforce the provisions of this section. No ordinance adopted pursuant to this section shall be enforceable unless the governing body adopting such ordinance so notifies the Director of the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries by registered mail prior to May 1 of the year in which such ordinance is to take effect.
The provisions of this section shall not apply to duly authorized law-enforcement officers or military personnel in the performance of their lawful duties, nor to any person who reasonably believes that a loaded rifle or shotgun is necessary for his personal safety in the course of his employment or business.

So the code says a county or city may create an ordinance banning loaded long guns but who knows if any localities have actually done that. So you could keep your rifle loaded and risk up to $100 fine or there may not be any problem if no localities have enacted such bans. I think this section of code is pretty crappy because Virginia has done a good job in their statewide firearms laws to prevent local crap like this.
My plan is to have a Kel-Tec Sub-2000 under my vehicle seat with a high cap Glock mag right next to it.

Apparently it's not permitted in Roanoke...but city or county I do not know.
Though it does say
loaded, I would have to assume a rifle with a mag taped to it isn't loaded.

I would recommend blue painter's tape. Sticky enough to actually keep the mag taped to the rifle if it's wrapped around a few times but easy enough to rip away to load the rifle and not muck up your rifle or mag with tape residue.

Nope. Short barrel, no stock = handgun. Short barrel, stock = NFA Class 3 Short-barreled rifle.
Of course it makes no sense at all, just like every other firearms law passed after 1791.

Short barrel, lower registered as... (either pistol or other, cant recall atm) and SIG Brace =pistol.

Just make one out of an A2 grip. Maybe I'll try that this weekend.
