This is a Springfield 1911 A1 Milspec GI Series .45 Cal (Parkerized)
it's a Replica of the WWII Pistol.

I took it to the range and it shoots great, I moved the Target to the 20 Yrd Mark
and still kept a 4" grouping

We should hit the range soon, you have got to try this one out, it's smooth, but needs a little trigger work.
I am still wondering what the Lanyard is for..

I would love to hit the range sometime soon. I need some pistol practice bad. I am stuck half-way between a Weaver and a Cooper stance. I suck at both. lol

The lanyard is a weapon retention system. Someone takes your weapon, you can use your body weight and the lanyard systems to retrieve the weapon and/or prevent the weapon from being used against you. If the length is right, it could also help prevent hard impacts on the ground.
