Just got an e-mail that Virginia Gun Owner's Coalition is closing. WTF is Virginia Gun Owner's Coalition, anyway? Sounds like some dude trying to generate a splinter group operating out of his basement who may or may not be a little on the fly-by-night side. The text of the e-mail is as follows:

Dear Patriots,

Please consider giving to either Virginia Citizens Defense League, Gun Owners of America, or National Association for Gun Rights.

The NRA simply cannot be trusted.

After your letters of encouragement I truly tried to continue but politics has contributed to the demise of my marriage and I need to focus on reconciliation with my family.

The VGOC never really gained much traction with the NRA, VCDL and GOA all competing for donations from gun owners. Nothing wrong with the organization, just too much competition in a very pro-gun state.

I have been visiting family and friends out west but have a desire live and work close enough to my two youngest sons in Virginia so that I can be involved in their lives.

Man... that's tough. I'll keep an eye out. This region is pretty stable as far as economy goes. He should do okay.

Just heard via Facebook (unconfirmed) that Mike McHugh passed away. Here's a video of him speaking at a VGOC meeting in 2012.

I did a quick Google search; nothing popped up. But, if it was a recent event (a couple hours ago, or so), I can see it not making the news, yet. Of course, I don't know how well known he is, either. I've seen it take up to a week for a death to hit the local obituaries, even for pillars of the community.

Seems like he did hit a rough patch. Losing employment and marriage in the same time frame, as well as feeling compelled to step away from something that you're passionate about. .. That's got to be a highly stressful situation.
