Hi from Woodbridge

I just moved up here from FL a few days ago. I'm actually from Haymarket originally, but I've been in FL since graduating college, almost 20 years now, so while I've now come home, not a whole lot is recognizable. We've ended up in Woodbridge, and so far liking it just fine, although it doesn't look like there's a range terribly close. I'll miss my free Mondays for ladies at my range in FL.

I've got 5 boys that keep me busy. Had my ccw down in FL so once they head off to school next week I'll start working getting residency here and applying for a VA one. I typically switch off my carry weapon between my fav - an XDsc9 (that I had painted silver and pink - don't judge me ;) I won't buy one based on color, but I'll "chick one up" if I get the chance) and a Shield depending on what I'm wearing that day since I only carry on body. I know VA is open carry (which I've never done), but I don't get the impression that it happens much in NOVA.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hello while taking a break from unpacking. :)

Hey! Welcome!

We have Sharpshooters range in Newington...just a few minutes north. Their pistol range isn't bad.

There are a few more around. I think we have a list on the forum. I'll see if I can find it and post a link here for you. If you like outdoor ranges, there are a few of those around too.

This sub-forum may be a good place to find something too.

Woodbridge is a lot of fun. I love it here, but yes... NOVA is a little iffy on the open carry thing. Most people never notice. Once in awhile, some crazy person yells at me. LOL

Where abouts in FLA were you? I lived in St. Pete for a few years and have family in Ft Lauderdale, Holywood, Miami, and Winter Springs (Orlando area).

Welcome neighbor! The NRA range is a nice place, though a little further than Sharpshooters. They do have a ladies night I believe. The museum there is very nice too.

Thanks for the welcomes :) And the range info's!! I'm still finding my way around but very happy in Woodbridge so far!

MarcSpaz - I lived in Hollywood when I first moved down, then Miami, Pembroke Pines, Middleburg and the last 6 years in Polk City (right between Orlando and Tampa)

I'm not against open carry, just never done it. Not sure I'd like the attention it might get me, although it is a good reason to holster shop and a girl can never have enough holsters :D For now I still have my FL DL and tags so my FL ccw works, but I don't want to delay setting up residency. We still own our home down there so that buys me time. I'm more concerned about getting my van to pass VA inspections than I am about my VA ccw - it looks like it comes pretty quickly overall. Not sure if I'll test the open carry waters while waiting or not.

I shoot at Sharpshooters. A large range facility will be opening in Prince William county that looks like it will be very nice. Here's the website:

welcome to the forum! There are a lot of local ranges that have ladies nights (not free but a good discount).

For sure the area has changed, especially places like Gainesville and Haymarket!!

Glad to have you aboard!
