What is happening to us?

The odds of a young white man being shot by the police in similar circumstances to Michael Brown are not as high as those of a young black man. But we should not need to have a young white man shot and killed for the rest of the nation to pay attention to the issue.

I'm not a LEO hater, but I am suspicious of them. I don't trust them anymore. I've told both my girls they can't be trusted. If you don't draw attention to yourself you will likely be left alone. It is unfortunate, but it appears I have no choice.

Unfortunately I am the same way. I have LEO friends I love and would do anything for. However, if it is just a random LEO on the street I am wary and try to keep my distance.

I was illegally stopped by a US Park Police officer who had road rage last week (tailgating me) on I-66. In Virginia they have Conservator of the Peace powers, not traffic enforcement powers. After 20 minutes of making threats, he let me go.

I witness police officers commit all sorts of traffic offences. Aggravates the hell out of me. Speeding at extreme levels, turning and changing lanes without signaling, talking on the phone while driving (without a hands free device), texting and driving, tailgating. ..
I called the VASP office, once, to report a badly driving Trooper, gave them the car number, time and location. The Trooper that answered the phone sounded rather angry that I would dare question the motives of any Trooper. I think that a blood vessel popped in his head, when I suggested that the Police should be setting the example, instead of acting above the law.
When officers disobey traffic laws so blatantly, I find myself wondering what other laws do they feel don't apply to them?
I should point out that, like many here, I know good officers, too. I have LEO in my family. But, I have also known plenty of crooked ones.

The difference is between "ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS", and "PEACE OFFICERS".
Also, it's a hiring process, the LE Admins/Chiefs look for rigid minded folk who will follow orders blindly now... The old timers I work with have made the comments that even they have some fear of the new officers.
And that's kinda sad.
When you cannot trust your OWN?! Yeah.

He was probably trying to provoke a breach of the peace so his powers would kick in.

I have a good friend that is a captain in the state police. You would not believe the number of LEOs he has to discipline for extreme speeding,
One fellow he had disciplined several times eventually was in a nasty wreck and excessive speed was a factor. He died. My friend was really really upset.

If you were not in a park under his jurisdiction, instead of pulling over, I would have called the VA State police and told them some crazy person in a park police vehicle is trying to pull you over.
I actually had a park police officer do that to me about 2007, 2008 on Dale Blvd in Woodbridge. As soon as he hit the lights, I pulled over. It was dark and I thought it was a PWC LEO. Well, a PWC LEO was behind the park police SUV and pulled in with us. Park police officer got arrested and I got sent on my way..

Hmmm....we got pulled over maybe 11 years ago by a park police officer. We were going 68 in a 55 (missed the sign that changed it from a 65 to a 55). He chewed us out for 15 minutes then let us go. We sat there very quietly.
That was on 64 around Newport News. Interesting.

I don't see myself pulling over for a Park Police Office on I-64. Ever. I would most likely end up calling the police to report an impersonator.

Don't see too many gumball machines, anymore. Except in Michigan. Michigan Troopers still have big red gumballs on the roof.

I agree that LEO can sometime be too much. They forget that they technically work for us.....
