I thought it wasn't true the first time I heard it. Very sad. Drug addiction is no joke. My heart's broken for the family.

I feel for the family. But, I have no sympathy for Mr. Williams, if the reports of suicide are true. Very selfish, on his part. There was no call for him to do that to his friends and family.

The clinical depression he fought was difficult, but he was not alone. They claim he had "survivors guilt" from outliving John Belushi, Andy Kaufmann, and Christopher Reeves. They were all his close friends.

Still, he had children, a loving wife, and good career prospects...

Suicide is almost always the wrong choice. The only acceptable time for that is when you are in a Masada position. That is hopelessly surrounded by enemies with absolutely no possible means of battling it out or escape. That is when you empty your clip into the enemy only saving the last bullet for yourself. I mean that in terms of a literal enemy intent on torture and death, not a symbolic one.


That is not where Robin Williams was. Depression is terrible. Depression exacerbated by substance abuse even worse. It was still wrong to wrap a belt around his neck and to kick out a chair. Unforgivable.....no. But I grow weary of the bits about him being "free". He might be, but in gaining his freedom he condemned his family and close friends to chains of excruciating pain and unending questions. That is most unfunny.

Anyway. I loved his movies. I shall remember him fondly, but I wish he had been brave enough to live just one more day at time.

Early stages of Parkinson's? Already fighting depression? Substance abuse on top of it all? I can understand that. Just glad he didn't use a car, endangering others.

I totally get it. My dad was about the same age when he passed last year. Minus the substance abuse, he had advanced Parkinson's and also suffered from depression. He held out long enough for me to fly back from the Gulf and say my goodbyes. He was gone 8 hours later, tired of fighting it.

Really starting to hit home now.

He probably didn't want his family to have to take care of him once the Parkinsons advanced. It is a horrible disease, your mind still works but your body doesn't andost die from either pneumonia or starvation when their throat muscles stop working. My Grandfather had it and it was the pneumonia that finally killed him. If I were to ever be diagnosed with Parkinsons I am not sure if I would want to live with it either. His history of depression did not help either and is not an easy thing to deal with.

Parkinson's is a tough diagnosis.....but you can live a LONG time with it with very good quality of life. I had a friend who had it for at least 10 years. In the end it was not Parkinson's that took him out but a heart attack (something like his 4th).
