I have given up...

...shooting .22LR's.

I have enough to tide me over. But at $.10 a round as the CHEAPEST, last time I bought rounds they were $.02, or even $.01 a round when they were on sale... (shrugs) Yeah, it's cheaper than 9mm. But I have found 5.56 for $.02 a round for 1500 rounds... Cheaper than .22LR!

(shakes head)

I never liked to shoot .22 anyway so it's no real loss for me.

Stinks for people that do though.

I was looking to get a 22lr conversion kit for my Glock, but getting ammo for it would cost more than getting the kit!

They keep saying "Be patient", Um... it's been almost 2 years... At some point? It's like Gasoline. Accept we're bent over...

I read where Winchester predicted the "shortage" to last 5 years.

Occurs to me that the unavailability of .22LR deprives folks of what has traditionally been the entry-level firearm. You know; cheap. easy to shoot, no recoil, etc; the "first gun" from which people move up to bigger calibers once they get used to firearms and shooting. Wonder if that might deter some people from becoming shooters?

I do. But at this point? I have enough to keep me okay. I just think the pricing, and "hoarding" is what's causing the problem. And Dorm hit upon something, hard to train new shooters with full power rounds.

Now, when FEDERAL BLUE BOX HP's come back at $27 a box for 500? I'll be doing a jig... and vacuum sealing the leftovers.

Yeah, the hoarders push my buttons. I've seen the employees at Walmart setting aside huge boxes for their friends, and then the same friends offering those of us that tried to buy some .22LR for $20 a box out front. Ditto the idiots that camp Dicks every ship day and grab as much as they can, and then have the audacity to tell me in line that they have over 500,000 rounds stored up.

Over weekend I got a 500 brick of Aguila subsonic for $50 for my daughter. It was the cheapest one, the most expensive I saw at the gun show was $85/500.

Yeah, it's cheaper than 9mm.
There's the game. Keep it just under the cost of the cheapest handgun round for as long as possible and people will still pay for it. And it's not like the ammo will go stale anytime soon.
Like the AR market, it'll have to shake loose eventually. I've seen the ARs trickling back.

I don't think it does much good to hoard ammo particularly when you see mfg facilities moving to gun friendly states. They know about the shortages and want to gear up production to keep gun enthusiasts happy. And I do not believe shops are holding supplies. It is not in their best interest to not sell...that's what they are there for - turn inventory. Everyone is still selling every .22LR round they get.

Those hoarding will either lower their prices, get stuck with much inventory or shoot more than they ever expected.

Bruce is right... I saw MANY a gun dealer stuck with a "$1500" standard $700 AR, trying to convince people "it's special!"

No... you were STUPID, and got SUCKERED into thinking you would RETIRE off of this bubble!

Now... things I wish I HAD done? There was a tub at the gunshow 5 weeks PRIOR to NewTown with Magpul gen2 standards in OD/FDE for $6 a pop... I would have LOVED to stock up on those in hindsight... because every luvin' one of them was sold the next gunshow in a matter of HOURS.

As to .22LR? My favorite in all my guns, Federal Champion (Blue Box) 36 grain HP. Love that stuff. Works well on squirrel, rabbit, and varmint alike! Accurate, reliable, and consistent every trigger pull.

Remington .22LR? M'eh. Got some, not happy, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, it's cheaper than 9mm.
But 9mm can be reloaded.
