I think a large portion of Hell just froze over...

A judge in Washington D.C just ruled that the district's laws restricting individuals from carrying firearms outside their homes is unconstitutional. I'm not dreaming am I ?

It is interesting that the judge ordered them to include non residents as well. I know D.C. is appealing but it seems after the last few Supreme Court cases, it is settled law. The question is then how will D.C. address - I am assuming some sort of highly restrictive permit process.
The real question though is the legal system leaning towards overturning may issue and making everything a shall issue?

They'll probably take NYC's law and do a global replacement of the city's name with DC's. Expect it to be proclaimed by DC officials tomorrow.

They will make it as difficult to get a permit as possible, and even then, it will be a shall-issue process. Perhaps five permits will be issued, and three of those will be for members of Congress or other well-connected people.

It would be great is they recognized my VA permit, but that won't happen.

If the SCOTUS gets involved, and UPHOLDS it? Then all the lil' "particular" states, such as CALI, NY, MD, and IL will have to FOLD their current "Dance-For-Me-Slave!" requirements to get a permit.

If it just stands on it's own? (shrugs) D.C. becomes partially livable, but remember, you still CANNOT carry into FEDERAL buildings... and just about everything... is a "FEDERAL BUILDING"!

Unless someone wants to CHALLENGE that one as well!

I would just be happy not to have to completely disarm and leave my gun at home when I have to go into DC for work. (Shudders just thinking about it). I try to get my underlings to do the DC work but occasionally I have to make a trip downtown. When I know in advance I make arrangements. When I don't know in advance it's a pain in the you know what.

Leaving it in the Jeep is better than leaving it at home. FYI I have a safe bolted to the floor under the seat.

From Emily Miller:

STUNNING DEVELOPMENT: DC Police Chief Lanier just told force not to arrest a person who can legally carry a gun in DC or any state.

If the NRA is smart, the will have a huge OC event in support of gun rights on the National Mall. Get the right permits fast and do it legit... but do it fast. For First Amendment protected events there are no fees or "approval" process. They just ask that you submit the form to the MPD and NPS for notification purposes and to help avoid multiple event from interfering with each other.

Just ell everyone with pistols keep em' holstered and rifles slung on their backs. No "Low Ready" or handling of weapons unless there is a life or death situation.

There's a lot of unknowns to be carrying in dc still at this point, like informing a police officer you're carrying when coming in contact? And if you did do the all know for sure about this memo the police chief supposedly out out? Or will they just continue to arrest anyway. Also how to know which buildings are considered federal buildings and which ones are just city buildings. I think I'll have to wait for more information before carrying there, which I really look forward to since I'm in the city usually 2 -3 days a week
