But, as to your question sorry, I would never part with my Model 700™ SPS Tactical AAC-SD, Good Lord how I love that rifle, and you want to talk about sweet shooting all I can say is that it is the pride of my gun locker.

As taggure asked, what model are you looking for? I have a high end Remington SPS tactical with tons of goodies that I was selling. I had one person make a deal with me and then went MIA.

Thanks for the replies. The SPS is probally high on the list but o really want something that has not been upgraded a bunch so I can build it the way I want it and not be in for way more the cost.

I am looking to use it like the old phone company slogan. Reach out and............hit some targets.

I'll tell you that the 700 in any of the SPS models would be a good place to start based on what you want to use it for then. I will keep my ear to the ground for you and see what turns up.

Just a thought and not meaning to steer you away form the 700, but have you looked at the Savage 110 in .308 or 30-06? The are a heck of a rifle as well and that Accu-Trigger is great.

I did consider lots of other rifles but with the availability of stocks and other aftermarket parts for the 700 and the fact that I like to modify and tinker, it is a hobby anyhow, is why I settled on the 700.

You can't go wrong with the 700 so i don't blame you one little bit

Which profile barrel are you looking at?

M700 has the most after market parts, but the Savage short actions are starting to get pretty near par on that too.

You can tinker with pretty much everything on a M700 easily except the barrel. If you want to start installing your own aftermarket barrels which are far above either the factory Savage or Remington barrels then the Savage short action is the way to go. A few hand tools and a barrel vice is all that is needed. With the M700, you have to have a gunsmith set the headspace with a lathe.

I've got a old M700 PSS (now the 700P) that shoots awesome, and I have now rebuilt 3 Savages (new barrels, bolts, stocks, triggers, recoil lugs). They all shoot great and have been fun.
