Pull up a chair - I'll get the coffee!

Nothing specific or critical in here, just general yakking about reloading and shooting. Fer instance, I've noticed my XD will hammer the mouth of a case every 40-50 rds. Is this typical, and would you try to straighten it out before resizing or just call it a loss and give it a toss? Factory WWB, and no FTFs or FTEs.

Should be a good weekend for me to get out and test some loads...

I've never had that problem with my XD. Could possibly be just some bad brass. I'd resize it and if it doesn't split try it again. But tossing it would be alot easier.

Resize as long as they will go into the die without a problem. Check after they come out for any type of crack or split.
Q. John, are you loading a light or heavy load.

Anybody interested in chrono info on factory rounds? I've got the chrony set up when I'm testing my handloads and I'm shooting across it anyway. I also can post pictures of expansion in different media.

Do you run different grain bullets or do you keep the same ones? Found that super secret recipe just quite yet?

Right now I'm just working w/ 230gr... - 2 cast profiles and a copper plated made here in VA by Proofmark. But that's 3 variables, just in bullets, now I've got two types of lube. jest starting to get complicated... Still cooking!

Word. Plan on reloading any other calibers than that 45 of yours?

I'm tooled up for .22 and .30 in rifle, and .38spl, but for now just the .45. One thing at a time.
I know what I can do w/ a rifle, but I've yet to find my limits w pistols. An' that XD is one hungry mother.

I bet it is. I am shipping out a box of 45 Monday to a friend of mine who wants it bad enough to have me ship it to him. He had an XD45 also. However, he hasn't gotten into reloading yet.

I was casting this weekend and broke the cam sprue cutter off my brand new Lee 6gang mold. The thing looks like it's made of some sort of pot metal, the grain structure doesn't look like steel at all. If that's what they're gonna replace it with, I might as well make my own. I was rollin too! Dropped 250 beauts in short order. Went ahead and cleaned up 20lbs of wheelweights while I was at it.

I have a set of 33s that i bought with my F-250 in '94 - use them in the cool seasons -and this fall two of them got blisters and the treads separated. I got to thinking about getting rid of them,and it occurred they might make good backstops for shooting. So I did, and they did... I cut each tire into six pie sections with a sawzall, then nest them together for the backstop. Factory .45ACP 230gr balls will go thru 3 layers and stop against the 4th. Easy cleanup for recycling, I've put 300+ rds into the first set and they're still holding up. If a slug sticks in the tire, no prob, the next one will push it through.
Wouldn't recommend shooting reduced loads at this...

A couple of platters of entrees for the XD. Worked these up with slight variations in COAL, watching for feeding problems and velocity variations. All but 5 of these worked great, much more accurate than WWB... Keeping notes and reading on the big forums. It's amazing how much is involved with reloading.

Some mighty fine looking ball ya got there. Thinkin about maybe using lead for my .45s. Stay on the cheap side and besides I like castin my own from time to time.

I'm finding out there really is a narrow window of success for reloading lead into an XD... might be a good talking point to convince the missus I need a 1911!

I think Vahunter (Henry) loads lead for his XD. He may have a recipe or two he's willing to share.

These photos go with the original post - yeah it's too crappy to be outside, so I'm piddlin around with my camera.
Two are factory WWB, one is a reload of mine, probably 3/4 power,moving out in the low 800s. When this happens the case in question ejects forward 6'-8' into the 1:00 position, instead of backwards into the 4-5:00 position with everybody else. So I'm pretty sure the slide is connecting with it like a bat on a ball instead of it being thrown clear. Not worried about the situation, just wondered if anyone else had these symptoms, and whether it is fixable.

I have the same problem when shoting Aguila ammo from any of my .45s, especially the 1911s. Dont happen with other brass. Crimps about 25% of the Aguila brass leaving them useless.

Is the damage caused by the slide "pinching" the case?

You see what I see... all I know is there's no FTF or FTE, and the dented cases wind up forward of the firing line.
