Ruger LCR in .357 Magnum.
Last year I was hit with Lyme Disease, and the docs think it triggered RA - or something. In any case my joints often ache. That made shooting my Airweight 642 painful. The Ruger is much easier to shoot and the trigger out of the box is nicer than the stoned and many-shot trigger on the 642. Going to put a Lasermax on it, and need a new pocket holster.

I've always wanted to shoot this model to see if I like it as much as my LCR in .38spl +P. Me thinks that I would.

Tell us more about your Lyme. Did you get it in VA? It may be better in its own thread but I am very interested, being that daughter and I are both outdoor enthusiast and is something of a concern.

JustinCase, yes, either when we were hiking along the AT, or spring squirrel hunting. My wife and I had a few ticks on one of our trips - we didn't soak ourselves with DEET. She's a pale-skinned blonde so they are easier to see on her. I'm a dark-haired, darker skinned (half-Asian, part AmerInd - look almost Latino or Middle Eastern) so the buggers are hard to spot. We're pretty sure it was either due to one I found nearly a week later. Problem is it's not the big adult tick species that get you, but the smaller nymph stage of deer ticks, which are tiny.

Never had the bullseye (Erythema migrans) rash that is a common sign. Did have increasing joint pain and intense headaches in the weeks that followed, so went to doctor. I'm one of those guys that doesn't go to the doctor, but I know several folks that have serious issues with Lyme, so did NOT play around.

I had a woman that worked for me with Lyme's. She had some joint issues, but the bigger issue was neurological. She had odd tingling, and would suddenly break down crying. She hated the latter - being a woman in IT is hard enough already without seeming to be high strung (which she is not). My ex's cousin's husband had it, never got treated, and now has to be on meds since he went from a guy that's never angry to super mood swings.

All that said, I would not avoid the woods. Just cover clothes with permethrin (keep it away from cats - safe when dry) and cover yourself with DEET. Don't rely on the 100% DEET - get the Utrathon stuff that lasts longer. Reapply often, esp if hiking (but not too often with children). Keep a bottle and wipes in your car, so if you forgot the spray like me, you don't have to turn around - or go hiking/hunting unprotected.

I'm going hiking this weekend.

Finding that .357 Magnum, 158 grain shoots better in the gun than .38 Special 158 grain. The latter shoots low for me; the former is bullseye hot at 7 and 10 yards.

Thanks for the Lyme update brother... I normally wear Deep Woods Off when the tick season is in... Ive never had any problems while use it.

I am also looking to start using permethrin on clothes & gear in addition to DWO.

So, is there any "cure" currently?

Another vote for the Ultrathon by 3M. Went hiking last weekend and not a single tick on me, even though we were pulling them off the dog every 30 minutes.

If you don't get treatment quickly enough, you will have issues. For those that get on antibiotics quickly enough, the CDC says: Approximately 10 to 20% of patients treated for Lyme disease with a recommended 2–4 week course of antibiotics will have lingering symptoms of fatigue, pain, or joint and muscle aches. In some cases, these can last for more than 6 months. Although often called "chronic Lyme disease," this condition is properly known as "Post-treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome" (PTLDS).

Sorry about you're disease brother. However... I'd like to add another vote for the KLCR. I love mine! Been my carry gun for over a year

Still debating. Might go with night sights instead. Considering the low light situation in which I might use this, I think the laser may make more sense.

I carry a wheel gun when wife and I go hiking.....S&W model 66, loaded with snake shot and .357 mag rounds alternating. Never know when you may run across a rattler.

Put the XS front sight on it. Will do review of kit on my blog this weekend, but TL;DR is HIGHLy recommended.

How's the recoil?

gcnd06 - with .38 Special, like .22LR. With .38 Special +P. a little more zing, like a 9MM pocket pistol. With .357 Magnum, I can tolerate it just fine, but you know you're shooting Magnum.

The issue I have is a very swollen middle knuckle on my middle finger, and any sort of torquing recoil and/or the way the trigger guard sits on it, and it hurts. Glocks kill me, for example.
