We have been working on our Property in Dinwiddie since September...Clearing about 2 acres. Burning brush , bush hogging and doing a lot of grading. We also have a driveway of 2,000 ft. that always needs something. Then we had to get the Shooting Range up and running first .
Saturday we started framing our Cabin/Survival Shack. Coming along fairly quickly , hope to have the roof complete by this weekend. Windows and Doors will be delivered next week. The Mason's will be back to build the Fireplace on the 21st. I'll be glad to get that out of the way. We are planning to use this as mostly a get away on weekends and may even build a Real House attached to it someday. I'm planning to have The Cabin finished before Winter or by the end of the year anyway !

Would be a great place to go with a solar/wind power plant. Add a well & pump and you're off the grid!

Southside Electric Co-Op will supply Electric Power...2,000 ft. of underground Service. I already have the Health Permits for private Septic and Drain Field and we are going with a 6" Drilled Well 400 ft . deep.We are going to go with a Heat Pump System, really for the A/C and are planning to do most of the heating with a Wood Stove.

We have 4 couples that also have one of these large acreage lots like ours. They all shoot Pistols , Rifles , Black Powder and even Skeet....So all are Cool with our shooting and have even shot with us quite a bit ! We actually bought this Property just to have a Private place to shoot and get out of "The Rat Race" for a while !

If you don't mind my asking, was this the single biggest cost on the project?

At $6.00/ft. plus cost of the transformer...This will be one of the biggest single cost. Nothing is Cheap anymore...everything is at a Premium. We were lucky, our lot already had a Fire Trail into it. It also had some stone on it. Just some bush hogging and slight grading and we will add stone as needed. I have run a cost sheet and have a pretty close talley of the final cost...It will never get any cheaper than now !

Only had a couple of days to work on our cabin this week...Moving right along. Waiting on the Masonry Contractor to start the Fireplace. We are going to spend Saturday cleaning up around the Cabin...Inside and outside. Next week we should have the Exterior Doors and hope to build rear deck and steps.

Randy, I'm about 6-7 miles on the other side of the Rt. 10 bridge to Hopewell. I realize this property is probably another half hour-ish past there, or more, but I'm going to have to insist that I come out there and make sure that the cabin and range are up to par. The pictures look great, but I like to check things out in person, just to make sure. I'll be in touch...

Looking good Snake, we are working on a cabin out on our little space in the middle of no where too, but I don't think we will be getting a power feed, looking into a solar and maybe a wind turbine setup. Your place is bigger than my last house! Good luck, and more power to you, it will be great to have a place to go get away from everything.
