As my cell phone use has morphed gradually into hand-held computing with yahoo searches most days, I have been increasingly frustrated with my iPhone 5’s 4” screen and more intrigued with the motion of the 5.1” screen on the Galaxy S5. It seems to me that it just doesn’t make much sense for a cell phone to be any smaller than the breast pocket on a man’s shirt. On top of that, my eyes ain’t what they once were. And even a 5.1” screen is a poor substitute for that 24” monitor in my office, so I’m sort of spoiled to begin with. My shirt pocket is about 5 and 5/8 inches wide. So I think a 5.1” screen makes a heap of sense. So I’m pondering on changing to a galaxy S5.

I do worry about loss of functions and convertability if I change platforms (again). I understand the Galaxy S5 is an Android phone. I had an Android before I went to an iPhone and hated it, but I’m told the model I selected because it had a Blackberry-like hard keyboard (I was changing from a Blackberry) was the crappiest Android ever built.
I’m wondering about the interface between messaging and e-mail, the camera and e-mail, and the synching issue with Microsoft Outlook. Those are my biggest potential issues.

Does anybody use a Galaxy S5 or its predecessor? Any cell phone mavens out there? Know of any useful and informative sources of objective information? If you’ve got any Galaxy horror stories please tell’em now.

I use an S4 and have since the day it was released. I am a huge fan if it. The S5 has only a few small features over the S4 and the slightly larger screen being one of them.

I think you would be most pleased. The Note is a larger version if you want even bigger.

Part of my team does DevOps work on Android and iOS, so I have a pretty good insight. I also use a Nexus 5 and an iPhone 5S every day. I prefer the iPhone UI and environment but Android OS has come a long way in the last 3 years.

I am NOT a fan of the crap Samsung throws on the Galaxy. I prefer to buy the "clean" versions of phones from the Google Play store: https://play.google.com/store/devices/c ... partner_us

You may like the "phablet" size of devices if you're buying it for a larger screen. Feel free to ping me with any questions.

S5 measures 5.59 x 2.85 x 0.32 in and will be even bigger and thicker if you use a case. It will end up sticking out of the top of your pocket since you won't be able to lay it on its side.

I think iOS and Android are both good platforms. I usually recommend to people that if they like one or the other to stick with that (especially if they've purchased apps or content). Android syncing with Outlook has always lagged behind the seamless nature of an iPhone using iTunes to sync with Outlook.

Wife has a S3 and sells a ton of S4 and S5 (she sells Verizon Wireless). I've always found PhoneDog to be a great unbiased source for cell phone information with their in-depth reviews.

Samsung Galaxy S4. I like it even more than my trusty old S3, which is saying a lot.

Been using a Motorola Razor M for about 2 years. The battery is losing it and I'll likely have to replace the phone this year. Been thinking about the Samsung. I use my phone to receive PDF maps while in the field. Keeps my clients happy. I've been pretty pleased with it.

Don't know about syncing the Samsung with MS Outlook, but the with the Motorola I downloaded a small piece of software for my laptop. I turn on the phone's WIFI and the computer finds it and syncs wirelessly. Free software, always good.

I have my phone in an Otterbox because it rides in my back pocket, and gets sat on and dropped quite often. In the Otterbox my phone is a timex - takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.

I don't have any issues with the Android OS. I just hate Apple as a general rule. Wife has an iMac that I despise. Probably because when the wife has a problem she calls me and it takes me forever to figure it out. Many moons ago I had an Apple 2e. Most intuitive computer I have ever used. Kids have iPhone's and Mac's that they love.

I use Good Messaging to sync corporate email (Exchange) on my Galaxy. The Wi-Fi hotspot can handle up to 10 connections with a 4G signal.

VZNavigator kicks butt as a GPS but Google Maps works well too.

Otterbox is great. My phone falls out of the truck, has been stepped on, and has generally been abused. It still looks new. I highly recommend the Otterbox.

My phone is a Galaxy S3. My only complaint is the charging. This phone is damn picky about what charges it. And, the problem isn't thecharger; GF has an identical phone. Her phone isn't so picky. But, the S3 that she had prior, was. And she got hers when I got mine.

I just bought an external charger and 2 extra batteries.

But, I am happy with the phone, otherwise.

Not to add fuel to the fire here or start an Android vs Apple fest but.......

dorminWS, if you are happy with the user interface on your iPhone just not the small screen size the rumor is Apple will be announcing a new larger screen IPhone 6 at WWDC the first week of June.
As phones are an expensive investment just wanted to give you maybe an additional option.

I'd recommend for the others (and dormin) also looking at Windows phones. If you're not locked into the Google or Apple ecosystem, the Windows phones are very nice.
