Yes, it's true, I'm a Marylander.
I'm active on MDShooters but wanted to start poking around a forum exclusively dedicated to VA as I might be looking to escape the madness that is the political reality in Maryland.

Also, a quick question for someone perhaps suffering from Battered Gun Owner Syndrome (BGOS):
Looking to carry in Shirlington Park in the next couple of weeks. No reason that would be an issue, I assume? Understand open carry is legal without permit, but will be CC with FL/UT licenses.

Welcome to VGOF!
As to open carry in Virginia, you can OC without permit. As to how well that will go over in Arlington, I'll leave that to a member that lives there to comment on. Just make sure you know the law and your rights, and as always use good judgment.

Welcome EGG! Based on the population in Arlington, it really should be part of MD. I would just CC and you will be fine. Not that it is not legal to OC, I just prefer CC when I'm in that neck of the woods. I have OCd in Arlington once before and even though no calls to police were made, I did get a lot of strange looks.

I planned on CC. Urban environment, just makes more sense to me. OC has its time and place, and in a dog park or thereabouts in Arlington/Alexandria seems not at all the right time.
I wanted to make sure that I wasn't somehow violating a prohibition on carrying in a local park. I've long been familiar with handgunlaw.us and opencarry.org, but I rarely get to carry, and haven't in a while. Just brushing up on the particulars before exercising my rights.
See, this is what living in MD does to the free mind.

No problem, and thank you for your help in working with a mutual member of both MDS and VGOF. I don't know if I missed it or not, but a link to an admin/moderator email address on the main page would be a great idea. That way someone who is having issues registering can contact the site staff to get the issue resolved.

Scroll to the bottom of the main page and you'll the mods and admin in green and red. Click on that and you can pm or email. Don't click on my name 'cuz I really don't know anything. That's why I just troll everybody else's threads.
We're from Virginia and we don't have issues. The sooner you move down here the better off you'll be.

I'm with ya, while I completely understand that sometimes you know the aggravation isn't worth it, you CC to make your own day easy. But that always makes me think of my home state of MA where people just stopped OCing outside the rural parts of the state. While nobody would look at you twice out there OCing in the Boston area would be a LOOOOONG day! Sad really.

VA is a good choice. I relocated out here to the DC area last fall.....after looking at MD's gun laws, I decided there is no way in h*ll I would live there. I had my lifetime LTCH in Indiana (Licence to carry handgun), I have applied for mine here in VA. Painless process. Now if it would just arrive.
