Gentlefolk,
I'm interested in becoming a certified NRA pistol instructor, but the retail $350 seems a bit steep to me. Anyone know how to get discounts?
Thanks for the information.
Jamie

You'll have to shop around. Different training counselors charge different fees.

You will need to quality - it's getting 20 shots into an 8" circle with no shots more than a 6" spread. I took the class from Tina Wilson-Cohen, CEO of shecanshoot.com. Pretty happy and a good price.

You used to have to have some verifiable firearms background, like LE / MIL. ......sadly, that's not the case anymore and some T/C's are making anyone an instructor as long as they pay for the class.
Some people are CERTIFIED as firearms instructors, and some people ARE firearms instructors.....big difference.

Proshooter makes a good point. I don't think either a LE or military background is necessary, but extensive experience with handguns should be. The NRA pistol instructor class/certification is just for teaching basic pistol. It does not even address drawing from a holster. However, everyone needs to start somewhere and this rating is good to have for lots of reasons.

I've also thought about taking this class. I don't have any LE/Military experience but am passionate about getting everybody involved in firearms.

Other than the above, I haven't had much response. I'm interested because I'm just up the road from NRA HQS and want to take advantage of those opportunities while I'm still in the area. (I'd assumed, incorrectly, that you had to attend a course taught by an NRA employee to be NRA-certified.)
Recommendations for others offering this training still appreciated.
