Newbie from NoVA/Ashburn

Hey all. Newbie here and pseudo newbie to guns. I have a Glock 17 and am looking to get a .45 (possibilities include Ruger P345, Beretta PX4, S&W M&P45c, Sig P250).
I took the basic gun course at Blue Ridge Arsenal several years ago, but am now looking to get my Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP). I'm looking into taking the Basic Pistol/NRA course.
I'm sure I'll have tons of questions, some seemingly stupid, some to clear up confusing issues. I'll appreciate any help you all can give.

get a CHP...
start out by going to the sherrifs dept and filling out the form, do the background check, and then ON THE SAME DAY, go to the Leesburg Courthouse, 2nd level and complete one more form, pay $40 (?) and wait...
