Take your pick, either it's workplace violence or there's a Youtube video to blame.

I was under the impression that the army fights with enemies, but I was wrong. Someone shooting in a military base, a shelter in place order is issued. Hide under desks or beds. Great.
I can hear the Russian laughs.

Wouldn't people walking around cause problems with the response forces?

Calling county sheriff and state troopers? It's just pathetic.
Olympus has fallen or Red Dawn doesn't look so far-fetched anymore.

A lot of information / misinformation in the media right now, which is to be expected after this sort of event.

Fox is reporting 4 dead, which includes the shooter, who may have died at his own hand.

The shooting back in 2009 resulted in 13 dead and more than 30 injured. At least today's tragedy was not as severe.

I'll make this statement, and then shuddup.

Shooters only find places with people WITHOUT MUTHAFRACKIN' WEAPONS!

You NEVER hear about gunshows, Hunt clubs, redneck gatherings, or a cop bar being "shot up". Just saying....

Had this argument with my coworkers today. They are so ignorant. I said we should be able to defend ourselves at work, even in federal government buildings. Some of them gave me a rash of BS saying that security would protect us and why run the risk of an employee flipping out and shooting the place up.

They didn't like my response when I said "yea, that worked really well for the folks at Navy Yard and twice at Ft. Hood, didn't it?" LOL

Of course the response was "oh, but it would happen even more if everyone could carry a gun at work." I asked that guys to sight a single example that supported his opinion and he couldn't do it, but still insisted he was right. Some of the most ridiculous stuff I ever heard.

Even NBC news is reporting the following:

"Lopez (the shooter) was carrying his semi-automatic weapon in a parking lot when confronted by the female officer, Fort Hood’s commanding officer told reporters.

"He was approaching her at about 20 feet. He put his hands up, then reached under his jacket, pulled out the (.45) and she pulled out her weapon and then she engaged, and he then he put the weapon to his head," Lt. Gen. Mark Milley said late Wednesday.

The female police officer's actions appeared to prompt the end of the killing spree."

So it took someone with a weapon to end the confrontation. Unfortunately this didn't occur and couldn't occur any earlier or more lives could have been saved.

I can't help but wonder what the Command Climate is like at Ft. Hood, in the way of ambivilance, apathy, I dunno what... Ft. Hood needs to get a grip on their security, THAT's for sure!! Some serious stuff is being swept under the carpet I suspect, to have another incident like this. I mean, you can't send kids into battle 5,6,7+ tours and expect them to function normally. I think there is still a certain stigma associated with PTSD, and maybe not enough folks are being treated. Traumatic brain injuries, constant headache, but nothing shows on cat scan, so treatments not forthcoming, or not quick enough... Member snaps and this happens. Damn Shame! Pisses me off that we spent 10+ yrs at war with no clear objective, and put our soldiers thru the meatgrinder for what? And this is the residue that is left...

I digress; I think the Navy Yard, the Mahon, and Ft Hood demonstrate a failure of in-place security measures. Put the Marines back in charge of base security, I bet we won't see THIS kind of crap again!! I see the civilian "guards" chatting back and forth while idly glancing at ID cards at Ft Eustis, yucking it up. Lets get SERIOUS, People!!

My take: It will be repeated again and again until it will be enough to label all veterans as unstable and take their toys.

No 5, 6 or 7 tours. This kid was down range for 4 months in 2011. Some people just simply cannot coupe (perfectly understandable). It seems like they had more than enough time to ID this kid as a risk and failed to do so. They acknowledged he was suffering from mental health issues, was under treatment with analysis, counseling therapy and drug therapy, and was suspected of suffering from PTSD.

I hate the idea of disarming Americans, but this kid sounds like the Poster Child for Gun Control ads. I would not contest this person having there access to personal and duty weapon restricted until determined mentally fit.

I do agree that our military and our society as a whole are grossly mistaken if they believe after training our boys to take life without remorse, paying and rewarding them to do so for months, years or even decades, and then when they are State side they are just going to turn it off and go about life like it never happened. I don't care how much reintegration time they spend on base, I can't see that ever going away.

I like that Megyn Kelly refused to name the perp. Let him rot in Hell anonymously.

Folks need to realize that psychiatry/psychology is not an exact science. Professionals in that area could find no reason to detain or otherwise restrict the activities of this person. To my understanding, his chief recognizable problem was depression. He had no combat experience, no brain injury. I don't see disarming everyone complaining of depression as a cure for gun, or any other form of, violence.

Most recent psych evaluation showed him to be a non-risk, had "mental disorder" by some definition but most diagnosed or not aren't going to be active shooters.
