Yet another consequence of Obama's clueless foreign policy.

They are the major power in the region. I don't think we can keep up our influence there much longer anyway. We are out of $$. We really need to regroup and think our foreign policy over again. Not what is ideal, but what is possible.

It is not THAT we pulled out the troops and left. It is the way we did it. If the Russians could send them modern factories to cement lasting relationships and project economic rather than military power, why couldn't we?

Because our politicians are stupid. And because we did at first have a military ax to grind (bin laden). I think the Russians have a better understanding of the culture of the area as well. It is also easier to get factories in where you can truck them in instead of flying them in.
It is my hope that though the Russians can be selfish bastards that they will be able to help these people out. Afghanistan has always been a hard region but if Russia can be the primary influence instead of Iran more the better for everyone.

So Iran gets Iraq / Russia gets Afghanistan, sounds about right and my time/effort spent in both of those 'countries' was a total waste if this holds true. I didn't really expect a better outcome from a community organizer who is focused on social engineering agendas though. Oh-well...the majority of Americans still don't care about the direction that our country is heading, so all I can do moving forward is look out for my family's interests and hope for the best. By the time enough Americans wake up it will be too late to turn back, and if Hillary gets elected during the next election I'll take it as a clear sign that this is definitely the case.

Russia has already been there once and failed. It appears we have repeated their mistake. Now they want round 2?
Let the cesspool ferment and rot on its own. We have better things to spend our time and money on here inside our own borders. Would we be cutting back on our military now if we hadn't wasted all that money and all those lives over there for the last 10 years or more?

Read "Ghost Wars". All about the CIA involvement in showing the Russians the door the first time. Maybe we can do it again?

Let them have it, let them tie up their time and resources playing in that rock pile. We made the mistake of going in there in a half a$$ed manner and trying to go into Iraq at the same time with Iraq getting a lot more of the resources. Had we focused on getting in there, eliminating the Al Qaeda threat, and their Taliban supporters quickly, we could have been long gone from there. We should have taken care of business and then told the new leaders if they allow the terrorist training centers to reappear, the USAF and Navy will be sure to have some aircraft swing by and eliminate them like weeds in the garden. Those folks want to accept living under the austerity and stupidity of their interpretation of Islam, that is their choice. It is not our place to tell them to change any more than it is theirs to tell us how to run our country.

Exactly, I said the same thing when I was there in 2003...lets eliminate the enemy and leave Afghans to determine how they move forward, with the understanding that any future problems will be handled with a heavy hand. We should have been done and out of there by 2004 at the very latest. As for Iraq, we should have left Saddam in power to keep Iraqis (and Iran) in check. We could stay in both countries for 100 years and they'd revert right back to their old ways the minute we leave.

Yes, but for at least the rest of the Obamunist's tenure, they will NEVER use a heavy hand for fear of killing Russian "advisors".
