Looks like a pretty nifty gadget, but I wonder if it will work as advertised and if it might be a made out of flimsy plastic that won't last.

I agree it looks nifty... but I have to ask, for $80, couldn't you just buy several more magazines and have them loaded already?

Got extra mags. I just find poking rounds into them one at a time to be a little tedious; especially when you're feeding an AR with a slide-fire stock.

Looks like a stripper clip speed loader on steroids.

I really don't think you want to spend your money on that. You still have to stack them in the little tray neatly. Some may line up coming out of the box but I am sure you still have to pick up a few and put them in the loader manually. Then you can almost fill 2 magazines. Who knows how long that plastic will hold up.

Perhaps a better option for you on your outings would be to use the same things the US military has used for decades, 10 round stripper clips and chargers. I am sure you have seen them at gun shows, but I know I just found the stripper clips here: http://all-in-general.com/product_info. ... s_id=59345. Rick also sells a plastic charger: http://all-in-general.com/product_info. ... s_id=59274 but it says he is currently out of stock. I would however recommend you go with the metal ones if you can find them, they last a long time and you can usually find stripper clips, bandoleers, cardboards and chargers in sets, here is an example: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/ARR-058. They are just as reusable as the fired cases from the ammo.

If you reload and I am pretty sure you do, it is the most efficient way to handle the ammo. You finish loading it, put it on stripper clips, load them into bandoleers, put the bandoleers in an ammo cans. You can easily decide to carry a couple of magazines, a few bandoleers of 120 or 140 (depends whether you get the 7 X 20 round pocket or 4 X 30 round pocket bandoleers) or 840 rounds in an ammo can.

How long does it take to I ad that thing up before ut loads the mags?

I also think stripper clips is the way to go… I can pre-load as many as I need and it takes me seconds to load 30rds with my stripper clip loader.

My problem with loading mags is arthritis in my fingers. After a few mags (when it's cold and the arthritis is at its worst), my fingers get tender and I tend to let the rounds squirt out from between my fingers. I figured it would be a lot easier to drop rounds into the trays than force them into the mag against the spring pressure.

No experience with stripper clips. Would the work on a quad-stack or double stack mag?

Stripper clips work with most AR mags.

I had a loader very similar to this for my 10/22. It was junk. That being said, Caldwell is known fr producing quality products so it probably works. I think I would want to try one at a shop for that price.

I would just get Cammenga easy load mags myself. They are great mags and for $80 You can get 2 with some left over. Sure they are a tad on the spendy side at $31 each. I got to meet the guys who own Cammenga at SHOT 2012 nice guys and believe in their products and stand behind them as well. That is exactly my setup. Load my loose rounds into stripper clips and load up the mags easy and quick.

Spent many a hour stripper clipping 30 rnd mags. That was the drawback to being the platoon with all the trucks and the Hazmat drivers.

It was outweighed by the fact that WE got to use up all the extra ammo on the last day on the range.

Just got mine in the mail today. MagLULA StripLULA loader. This thing is awesome. Using this tool and stripper clips I loaded 6 30 round mags and 1 20 round mag in about 1 minute and with zero pain in my fingers... should have bought this thing years ago.
