I started the forum shortly after Barack Hussein Obama was inaugurated because even then, it was evident that this country was about to change for the worse, and I felt the need to prepare myself.

I grew up on a farm in Illinois and had an old Winchester model 62A pump action .22 that my dad gave me. I shot a lot of blackbirds, starlings and sparrows with that rifle. As an adult, I didn't own any firearms prior to starting this forum. My first firearm purchase was a Taurus 85SSUL .38 Special. I wanted to get my Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP), and I started searching google for information on Virginia gun laws. Since I kept coming up short on finding the information that I wanted, I decided to start VGOF and make my own source of information. VGOF seemed to catch on right from the beginning, and with the help of some of the early VGOF pioneers who got things going, and with the continued inputs from our current membership (over 6,000 members strong!), we have become the best online information source for gun owners in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

We've had some good events over the years, and I'm hopeful that we'll continue to grow and have more events this year and into the future.

For me, VGOF is the family I have missed for almost my entire life. I have learned a lot of things, and I have even more to learn form here.

Happy anniversary to the forum.

Thank you, Rick, for founding VGOF. I had so many misconceptions in regard to firearm related laws before I found this site. This site has proven to be an indispensable resource for me; and for others, I am sure.

When you go out to pop of some celebratory rounds, be sure to pop off a few for me.

Guess I came in on the front end of this site. I Found it and joined shortly over a month after you created it. I must congradulate you on the wonderful site. You seem to have captured everything any gun owner or soon to be gun owner would want to know in one site. You point the people to all the right resources for laws and legal opinions as well as provide us all an outlet to our own opinions.

Great Job Rick! and may the site and family continue to grow for many years to come.

I found this site looking for primers, when primers couldn't be found. And thanks to VGOF, I found primers. A couple of days ago a thread popped up dissing a gun shop because the owner was prickly and didn't like folks tracking mud in his store. I say God Bless the brick and mortar shops and their owners, you just might find yourself in a pinch for something some day, and the small local shop just might be the one to come through for you.
