No. Never. The only thing on fatigues was a unit patch, any tabs (like ranger, airborne), jump wings, name tage, US Army (both over the front pockets) and rank insignia.
Ribbons were worn on class A's (Green uniform, tan sort of shirt) and medals were worn on blue dress uniforms.
The US Army switched from cotton fatigues to permanent press fatigues (nasty sorry looking rags that should never have been adopted - did you know you can't starch/press permanent press material? And permanent press is a lie, they don't hold a crease, no matter how you iron/steam/press them - we tried) in about 1978. We visited every clothing sales at every post in the DC area and bought up the cotton fatigues so we wouldn't have to look like old dog $hit in those permanent press abominations.
Don't have a clue when the went to the camo stuff. I got out in 1979. I'm an "old guy".

Nope...not even the Air Force wore ribbons on fatigues - the only patches/tabs worn were similar to those already listed by M1A4ME. Never wore camo fatigues - I retired long before those became "popular".

That guy is an actor. Can't recall his name but he acted in a lot of movies and TV shows. Looks to me like he may be playing an officer from the WWII or Korean War era. Appears to me that the shirt is an imitation of a winter Class A shirt in OD color.

Medals on dress blues only for us squids. I had to wear those nasty permanent press double breasted POS's. Just before I got out '81, they went back to the cracker jacks. Older guy at church just gave me a dixie-cup that's never been worn. Might just get the CJ's to go with it. Then strap on an old 1911 and go strut my stuff downtown!

No medals on the fatigues but I had the old cotton ones that would came out of the cleaners that looked like boards and I had to "Break Starch".
We never starched the Jungle Fatigues or our Tiger Stripes and the damn BDU's you couldn't starch as that made them all shine like a silver dime

Nothin' like the old Coast Guard "Gas Station Attendant" uniform. I remember my old man wearing these when he was in, wearing boat shoes instead of boots. (Persons pictured not my old man lol)
Thank goodness we now somewhat "upgraded" to the untuck ODU's.

Air Force greens were phased out sometime around 1987 - 1989. For a while, you could still wear your greens as long as they were serviceable. Never much liked the BDU's which were heavy and hot in the Mojave sun. We were allowed to alter the greens into short sleeves, which was a bonus....but not the BDU's.

I could take your comment one of two ways
Taggure, how did ya'll wear your potty medal lol
I am Not sure what you mean by the “Potty Medal" but as for my Medals and ribbons I wore them on my Service Dress uniform and was damn proud to do so.
I served for 21 years in the AF and spent more then my fair share of time and then some in Gods little Hell Holes all around the globe. On more then one occasion during my travels I was being shot at and/or needed to pull my buddies from the rubble after the explosions, so unless you care to clarify what a POTTY Medal is I will take it that you are being derogatory in nature towards my service. Not all in the AF sit behind a desk or fly a plane
If on the other hand you were trying to be cute you have an Epic Fail on your hands.
Just so you know I was assigned to the 23 and the 24th MAU in Beirut in 82 and again in 83-84 as I see that you have a Marine emblem on your signature. Those Buddies I helped pull out of the rubble were Marines at the Barracks
Have a Great Air Force Day

Yeah when I was stationed at China Lake I got stuck on security. Had to wear khaki camo and they werent comfortable. I used to sweat like crazy under those layers and at the end of the day my undershirt was covered in salt, which was a pain to replace.

Looks like a screen cap from a tv show... and we all know the tv guys dont always get it right.
You may get a medal pinned onto your fatigues, but you dont wear it there... all my medals are on my As.

I was enlisted at the time the Air Force switched from the cotton fatigues to perma-press...my AFSC was not allowed to switch with everyone else because the new fatigues were static magnets and we (fuels specialists) had this aversion to being around thousands of gallons of JP-4 and static electricity at the same time...

Got busted for not putting ribbons, stripes, or rank on my dress blues. I never did put them on either.
