We might need to get your head examined to get rid of any traces of Democrat thoughts such as:
- "Do it for the tree rat!"
- "Tree rats have feelings, too!"
- "If I said you had a beautiful tree rat, would you hold it against me?"
I find myself feeling bad for the hawk that has to go hungry .

I figured if the hawk struck out the tree rat would still be there for us come squirrel season.

snicker, my ass, boy. I expect I've shot damn near as many squirrels as you've seen. And I really did think "save the squirrels for US to hunt" when I posted the OP and it did cross my mind that somebody would misinterpret what I said, but I thought it would be MammabearCallie or TacticlaMom; NOT A GUY!

Hah! I love how riled up people get when they're called a Democrat. You sound just like my wife. She got her panties in a twist over the same insult just a few weeks ago. :p

I try not to use the "D" word. It makes me feel dirty.
I was waiting for a little tree rat carnage... I will admit. LOL

I watched a hawk this past weekend chasing small birds through the trees. Pretty cool. That little bushytail got a temporary reprieve. He'll get his.

I watched a hawk pluck a bat out of the evening sky in my back yard a month or so ago. Was pretty amazing.

Did you guys see the video of the rabbit that got nursed back to health only to get eaten by a hawk while the family was releasing it?
Short story even shorter...I saw a hawk drop a dove when I startled him. Walked over, picked it up, the only thing eaten was the brain. I had to wonder why the hawk started his meal there.

I like the videos like that. My house is surrounded by squirrels. I always have to take a cautionary peek on the porch before opening the door to walk the dog. I've had all 117 lbs. of Malamute mash the go pedal several times because a squirrel was sitting in front of the door.(he's got three so far) I'll always root for the hawk, or the big ol' owl that occasionally makes a stealth pounce in the yard. There's no danger of the tree rat population dwindling here.
I've occasionally noticed a hawk making low flyovers but, this summer a pair of hawks frequented our back yard. They'd perch on the two satellite dishes and watch the yard.

To tell the truth, I'm not too fond of hawks. They kill a lot of small game (particularly upland game birds) and they've screwed up many a dove hunt for me. One cotton'-pickin' hawk within a mile or so of where you're shooting pretty much grounds the doves.

Yup, my Pappy's standard answer to stuff like that would be, "Call me a S.O.B. and YOU can be a democrat." - 'cept pappy wouldn't have used the initials.
