So, I got bored tonight

And decided to be creative
So today I would catch up on my woodworking and just for grins I asked my buddy Bill for his grips off of his .45
I used his grips as a template to make him a couple of new sets.

Bill's original set are on the left have the raised texture (I am not that skilled yet) and I think they are made of Blood Wood
I used Black Walnut on the middle set and Cocobolo wood an the right set. He is bringing his .45 over tomorrow an I will do the last minute adjustments on them. The outside is easy it is all the groves and such that take the longest to get to match the original set. The first set took me a bit as I was learning the pattern but the second set only took 45 minutes and 3 fingers of Devils Cut.
Here is a photo of the three together

Thanks
I am not sure if all .45 grips are the same on the back but if hey are I now have a template to make them. I have some Snake wood and some Curly Maple that should make some interesting grips and knife handles. I will be making knife handles here real soon as well. I picked up a couple of knife blanks to try my woodworking skills on.

My grandfather still has the grips that he made for the sidearm that he carried during WWII.

When he put on the new grips, he tucked a picture of my grandmother under them.

He keeps that picture with the grips.

Good job on those grips. They look right nice.

Had to do slight modification on the screw holes and the area for the safety but I got the new grips (Coco Bolo Wood) on my buddies 1911 last night.
What do you think?

Is there anyone in the NOVA / Woodbridge (or willing to travel) that has a different style of grips for their pistol that they might lend me to make a template of (Please PM me).
Another 1911 or any pistol with removable grips as I would like to make a couple of more sets to work from. Heck I will let you chose from the wood that I have in stock and I have several interesting wood grains.
I will just need the grips and then when i get them 98% I will have you bring your pistol for the final fitting. I just need 2 and at the mos 3 sets of grips for patterns.
I am currently working on my sons Browning 9mm grips (Black Walnut) and will post photos of them once they are finished.

This is just a hobby that I am getting into along with Knife making to keep me busy on the weekends.

Thanks
Vern

We sell a lot of little mini-Derringers with plastic grips that might look nice with a set of custom wood grips. Some of them already have rosewood grips but something a bit more exotic might look pretty cool. I'll drop off a few of them to for you to make templates and maybe find some colors to coordinate with the lady-guns too! The standard and big bore models have different locations for the screws, and they are slightly different shapes.

Folks I have known Tom for around 9 years and he is a real good guy who is an avid hunter and gun owner

Thanks Tom and I will see you today. I have brought several types of wood for you to look at as well as a couple of knives that you might be interested in as well.
Please go the the merchants section and post your Lost Corner Gun site and introduce your company there as I think there are a few folks here that might be around your neck of the woods.
