Yesterday my wife and I finally made it to the county clerk's office in Manassas to apply for our CHPs. It was easy since we just needed our DD214s and license--love that my wife was USAF as well. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and efficient. We were in and out in under 5 minutes. I was expecting a somewhat less than satisfying experience and glad to see that the clerk's office has some great workers. I don't even know if the woman supported 2A rights and guns in general, but her friendliness and attitude towards us was appreciated.

They said the typical 45 day wait, so I'll update everyone when it comes.

Glad to hear you had a good experience. My PWC Clerks office experience was the same. Seems like they have good people there.

Good to hear that too. I had the same experience when I got mine 6 years ago. Renewal can be done by mail, so you don't have to make the trip.

I had the same at the PWC clerks office twice. When I originally applied and a change of address. Fyi mine only took like 15 days both times.

Awesome, when I applied for my CHP (although in Page Co.) the lady was also courteous which I didn't expect for some reason. Hopefully it wont take the full 45 days, I was told when I applied it would be 2 weeks, but it was issued just 5 days later and arrived 3 days after that.

Count me surprised when both of our CHPs showed up in the mail this past Thursday. That was just under two weeks!

I applied for my permit in prince William also. I took the online class and applied by mail. I missed the part that you had to enter "none" if you have no special marks so they rejected it once. It still took about 3.5 weeks to get by mail. Overall very quick.

Hmm... I am looking into getting my concealed carry permit. I served a hitch in the Air Force years ago (1975 - 1979). Honorable discharge. The only firearm experience involved was a day of classroom training followed the next day by firing about 10 rounds from an M-16 in each of standing, crouching, and prone positions. After basic & tech school, I went where I was assigned... My military service was spent in that five-sided building in Arlington, which really isn't the same thing as true military expensive.

Could I use my DD-214 that to fulfill the training requirements for my permit?

By the way, regardless of Virginia requirements, I am interested in worthwhile basic training. There is an outfit in Richmond area called Proactive Shooters: Anyone have experience with them?

I've heard of them, but my opinion may be jaded...
