Libertarian Sarvis plans U.S. Senate bid against Warner

Robert Sarvis, the 2013 Libertarian candidate for governor, said today that he wants to run for U.S. Senate, challenging Sen. Mark R. Warner, D-Va.

“I finally got the go-ahead from my wife and told the Libertarian Party folks that I am going to run,” Sarvis said in an interview.

Libertarians will nominate their candidate at a party convention in Richmond on Feb. 8. So far, Sarvis, a former software engineer, teacher, lawyer and new media entrepreneur from Northern Virginia, is the only Libertarian who has announced a Senate bid.

Sarvis said he will run on a similar platform as last year, including small government, a reduction of spending, legalization of marijuana and allowing same-sex couples to marry.

May as well vote for him since Warner is going to win easily anyway.

A close election this will not be.

As has been recently proven all statewide elections in VA now belong to the Dems. This is increasingly common in many states and why the Senate and WH is blue but not the House.

The heavily populated areas are Dem so they determine statewide elections while House districts are local.

NOVA+Tidewater will elect Warner, ergo VA will elect Warner. It's really that simple.

This is just a fact.

Let's put things in perspective. The $11,000 contribution that everyone is upset about from Sarvis' $240,000 total war chest pales in comparison to the 38mil TM spent or the 20mil KC spent.

Who was bought and paid for again?

I always say maybe, but nothing is certain, If the R has guts and $$ and does not play patty cake, but rather is a take no prisoners sort of guy we have a shot. In VA republicans win state office when they have good ideas and set the tone of the race, they lose when they let the D's set the tone and issues.

5 years ago, UK's UKIP was a fringe small party. Now they have over 30%.
US Libertarians need a strong voice, like Nigel Farage's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RjUJy7kDOM

Now I've got one more reason to hold my nose and vote for Gillespie.

I think we tagged the repubic haters a while back.

Most here would vote for anyone who really wanted to save the republic.

Some just trash repubics...

I have no respect for any democrap because to exist under that banner you have to be against everything that the founders were for.

Libertarians have the remnants of the "make love not war" hippies as a key kog in their orginization. I can't go along with the "get stoned and screw whatever you want, just don't send me to fight your rich mans war" influence. I don't believe that will ever fly in our society. At least I HOPE it never will.

The vast majority of repubics are RINO big government clowns. That leaves the TEA Party. Our hope is to retake the GOP with constitutional conservatives. Reagan did it and we can too.

Know who you're voting for and keep an eye on them (including MINOR sources of funding). Primary out the RINOS then GET ACTIVE in working for your candidate. Let those that become RINOS know you will work against them.

Hell if you're on the "bash the repubic" train your sitting beside every communist in the MSM and most of Hollywood!

Bottom line regarding this post is; if you think Sarvis is running against Warner, you're a fool......AGAIN.

"Sarvis said he will run on a similar platform as last year, including small government, a reduction of spending, legalization of marijuana and allowing same-sex couples to marry."
This platform is UNELECTABLE! STILL!

I think you're correct, for now. Libertarians advocate a platform of Constitutional civil liberties that the GOP has not embraced....but all signs seem to be pointing to a GOP that will start to split along a fault line, as more Republicans seemingly move away from a Statist platform.

Now, not all LP issues are winners either [immigration, foreign policy] but there are many in the LP who aren't in lockstep, who can hopefully temper the platform with some reality. I've witnessed an evolution within the LP that has moved the core away from drug legalization as the primary plank, to a focus on civil liberties, economic sovereignty and fighting eminent domain.

Perhaps the two intellectually solvent parts of the LP and GOP can one day come together under either banner or a new one entirely.

I hope that is possable. I can certinly support 90% of the issues Rand Paul stands on. Likewise I believe 90% of Ted Cruse positions would be acceptable to most libertarians. The 2 groups COULD take back the GOP.

The commonality is constitional originalism.

NO ONE will ever find a 100% candidate unless they're Democrap.

Idologic purity is a liberal litmus test after all.

Nothing wrong with those! I've always shortened the toast for my sig lines....emphasizing my love for single malt scotch in toasting my Brothers in arms, those with us and those fallen.

Besides, I've already stolen my woman's heart, but I still have a lot of drinking and fighting left in me!
