So I bought a crossbow and so far love the look, weight, and feel of it but the problem is where can I shoot this dang thing? I shoot my recurve out back and that's perfectly legal but it's only 55lbs, my crossbow is 175lbs so I afraid of shooting here as a missed shot could be bad.

So any help with this would be appreciated! ^_^

Make a big ass stand out of bales of straw behind your target, wide and thick. Used to get away with single layer thick, but that was for well below 100 lbs, so you may want to double that and add a safety net of sorts, a hard back till your sure the bolt won't pass straight through.

You can shoot your crossbow outback just like you currently do. Work = force x distance. Basically your crossbow has no more velocity than most all compound bows. Sure most compounds have only 70 pound draws but they typically have at least twice the draw length. Your crossbow shoots 300fps as do most compounds.

If your worried about missing or over penetration, you are talking the need for a berm. Find an outdoor range and call. I bet they will be glad to take you money.

My gun club has archery ranges and even classes. Maybe you can find a club meat you?

Thanks for the help I check around. I just don't trust or have the room for hay bales and anything complex.

Get a good target it will work just fine. I have a crossbow with a 150 pound draw and my buddies compound will penetrate further with only a 60 pound draw. Any quality target for archery purchased from bass pro or the like will stop your bolt quite well... Trust me.
