Hey, I was looking at new handguns and noticed the Model CF-380 by Hi-Point is fairly cheap. A friend of mine has one in 40 S&W and he says that it shoots fine for what he paid. Has anyone had any problem with Hi-Points before?

A sub-sub-par trigger, strange ergonomics (which for one shop I know of has caused them to stop taking returns on Hi-Points), and the fugliness. Besides that it can take an incredible amount of abuse and continue to work, look up some torture tests I was thoroughly amazed. Also, since the gun is used in so many crime sprees the company, in an attempt to change its image I believe, only has 10 or less round magazines for any and all of their models, at least last I checked. You can get some bigger magazines from pro-mag ect. but nothing from the factory. Worth the money but you may want to try one before you buy it.

I heard about a guy who fired a Hi Point, which blew up. The shrapnel killed his whole family, the bullet ricocheted and killed his dog, and then sparks from the ricochet burned his house down, and then the shell casing landed on a voting machine and registered a vote for the political party he disagreed with. Yep, true story.

A Hi-Point is what you buy after you have saved $500 for a good pistol, but spent $300 on beer.

I think the official drink of average hi-point owner is malt-liquor. Usually a fine craft like Colt 45 or Old English.

I don't drink that crap. I brew my own. It costs less and tastes better than the swill that you drink.

Meanwhile, it is not uncommon for new hi-point users to load up the mags for a week prior to first use. This reportedly helps with some loading issues that some users have encountered. Tweaking the magazine lips may also alleviate loading issues if they are encountered.

If a new owner does have problems, the hi point firearms forums is a great brand specific resource and the community there is quite helpful.

That being said, if you do a problem that you cannot resolve with time, ammo, or a pair of pliers, the company has a no questions asked warranty that is the best in the business.

The 9mm has both 8 and 10 round mags available. The 380 is the same frame, so I believe a 10 round mad is also available for it. Don't get them anywhere other than the hp web site. Free shipping, best price, and if you order 100 bucks or more of accessories, it's free t shirt time.

Yes, they are ugly.
Yes, they are big,
Yes, they have a long, rough trigger pull.

BUT:
The trigger does smooth out after a good break in period.
They are totally US made (Ohio).
They do what they are supposed to do.
They are inexpensive. (If you NEED home protection TODAY this is a big plus.)
They have a lifetime no questions asked repair/replacement policy.
(Anybody remember Sears Craftsman Tools and equipment??)

Always remember, you get what you pay for.
However, ANY gun in an emergency is far better than no gun.
How long can you wait and save up your money before that improbable emergency becomes an actuality?

Its sad the elite if it isnt a thousand dollar pistol cant get past the fact,the hi point is a good inexpensive weapon

What would you rather have, a Sig, H&K, Colt, Glock.... Or a Hi-point? If they all hypothetically cost the same.

I have one in .45 I keep in my glove box (I'd never carry it unless I wanted joint problems), it's surprisingly accurate but the FTE rate with cheap russian steel case ammo is really horrifying.

using high quality brass I've never had an FTF or FTE with it.

IMO a great gun for a glove box, bedside, or tackle box.

To carry...get something else designed with ergonomics in mind.

At $175.00 new it was a great price for what I expected and intended it for.

Honestly,if they did,i would rather have another springfield 1911 but like a lot of people,i cant afford to buy another one

I would probably stick with the hp. It is mechanically more simple, and again, it has an unparalleled warranty.

In case any of you are thinking that I'm one of those people who bashes Hi-Points, but does not even own one... Well, here is my EDC (Every Day Carry):

Depending on the day, I'm totin' the C9 or a JHP... unless I'm dressed up and have the Galesi in my pocket.

Think of all the beer you enjoyed, and you can still defend yourself if need be!

Well, I do like my beer. I'm reminded of an old saying that has stuck with me over the years though. "Nothing will make a man so willing to polish a turd as owning one."

Friend has 40 but I don't know the model. He's never had an issue with it..

Mine has been pretty reliable too and if I get a fishing boat this year, I'll already have an anchor.

I have a plastic Timex watch I usually wear. It's light weight, keeps excellent time and it was cheap. But, as far as watches go relatively speaking, it's still a POS watch.

Thanks for the kind words. As you say, the Hi-Point 4-Tey really speaks for itself. The flashlight matches the ergos of the 4-Tey and it also has a remarkably long run time with its two D cells. The fixed blade knife is the lightweight stealth model I got from Roundeye Supply when it was on sale (http://www.roundeyesupply.com/Cutlery-s/100.htm). The knife is not used for defensive purposes (no need given the awesomeness of the 4-Tey). I use the knife strictly for utility purposes - grocery product related uses mainly. It can handle any type of sandwich spread you throw at it.
