Did anyone else hear that loud "sonic boom" down Chester?

About 22:43, near Ruffin Mill Rd on Jeff-Davis Highway (Rt 1).

Sounded like someone smacked the side of the house. From what the neighbors said, it wasn't noticed by everyone, but people DID hear "something."

Apparently, people have been reporting loud booms in the areas of Chester, Chesterfield, Colonial Heights and Dinwiddie. A couple of examples are in the links below.

With high performance aircraft flying out of Langley and Oceana, and the electronic target area in Surry county, a real sonic boom is possible.

An old story from long ago was that some group complaining about a US fighter jet hitting the sound barrier was told that it was the "sound of freedom".

I didn't hear that one, but I do occasionally hear booms in Chester. I know that the landfill on Rt 10 by Shoosmith has a bomb squad demolition area, and they blow stuff up occasionally. But that's a bit away from Ruffin Mill & Jeff.

You know what's odd? When I lived in Carytown (AKA FAR NORTHSIDE), we had a spat of "booms", no one could explain them...

Then about two months later, the fault in Louisa registered a freakin' earthquake.

Uh-huh... Yeah. Thinking all the "breakables" might wanna come down off the walls. I dunno if it's related, but I know before the San Madreas Fault in the mid-west went haywire, and caused the Mississippi River to run BACKWARDS, they had piezo-electrics from the quartz cracking, and saw "Sparks" shoot upwards from the ground.

An amazing world we live in.

My FAULT Dorm! :hysterical:

Sorry, couldn't resist! Yes! New Madrid... I got the two big faults confused. If we have activity like that? (shakes head) That's gonna make for some interesting building codes later down the line! Now one thing I DO know? It's what made the Appalachian Mountains, and why their were gold mines running the length of the fault in current NoVa along 95 in Orange, and Loudon.
