I picked up a couple little items today. I wanted to be versatile with the M4. It had an EOTech XPS2 with a magnifier, but it just didn't do everything I wanted it too.

So, I got rid of the magnifier, added some Magpul Backup sights to use for co-witness (and as backup sights), bought an American Defense quick release scope mount and a Nikon P-223 3-9x40 scope with tactical turrets. I already have a quick release bi-pod. So now I can do everything from clearing buildings to precision medium range, all with one weapon. I'm a happy camper.

All I need now is a cheap laser sight so I can co-witness the scope without having to fire a shot... Maybe next week.

Sweet setup! I got a laser boresighter (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/9-42986) that worked pretty well -- got me close so I just had to do minor adjustments to dial it in.

How are the Magpul MBUIS working out for you? Have you had any issues with the plastic sitting on the gas block and heat?

Just got back from the range. Man, the scope and the backup sites did great. I zeroed the scope, popped it off, zeroed the backup sites, and went back to the scope. I did this at the 10, 25 and 50. Return to zero was awesome.

The backup sites are fine. You would never know it was on that piping hot block for hours. I like them a lot. Very easy to bring up quickly.

I have a similar set-up on my SR556 with a Vtac padded sling and bipod. The Nikon p-223 does very well at 100yds, although I'd like to try it out to longer ranges to see what it will do. The Ruger's 1:9 twist limits the bullet weight, but it's my only ding on the entire package.

The Marines used to shoot out to what, 500/600 meters with their M16's and 55 grain bullets? With iron sights.

Does the wind affect the 55 grain bullets more? Yeah. How many of us, living in VA, will ever be a position to shoot farther than 300 yds? Not many. Too flat, too many trees, too many residences, buildings, roads, etc.

55 grain bullets are fine for the 100 to 300 yds. around here. I don't figure to use my 55 grain bullets farther than 100 yds.

Nikon scopes have great glass. One question for you...are you parting with the XPS2?

I have to be honest, I have never tried to shoot past 100 or so meters with traditional sights. Seems reasonable that a 55 grain and iron sights would be good to 600 meters given the energy they have at that range. But only on a soft target. I can't see hitting someone with armor at that range with ball ammo and doing anything effective.

The Federal/LC XM193 is my round of choice, but I keep a 1000 or so green tips on hand too.

LOL... we've had that convo before. Even most shooting ranges don't offer more than 25 yards. You have to drive around to find 100 yards and its a 4 hour round trip to get 300 or better.

With that said... Some, if not most, are just recreational shooters poking holes in paper. But for others, its getting ready for what we hope never comes. Urban and suburbs could easily lead to medium to long range shooting either in the street or on roof tops. I know a guy here who mentioned posting up in a water tower in a SHTF situation.

While hunting out in the woods in relatively flat area, its a challenge to find a long range path through the trees. Up in the mountains, shooting from vantage points and across open grass lands, you can easily go beyond 1,000 meters. But that is why I picked up an SASS in a 7.62 NATO.

For day to day... I have to agree with you there. The main reason I got the scope is because I have bad eyesight. Even if I lose my glasses, scopes make it so I can find and acquire targets by using the scope for correcting my vision. They are very helpful for social shooting at the range. And most importantly... the chics dig it.

I would consider it if I could get enough for it. The only reason I would let it go is to replace it with the HHS 1. I've been holding off because NV is the only real gain I would get, and I don't have any NV goggles yet... so I'm not in a rush.

The XPS2-0 was a bit more expensive when I first got it because they were new... which also makes it hard to price... but this is what I am thinking.

XPS2-0 = $540
XPS2 Quick Release = $80
XPS2 front and rear covers = $40
Sightmark 5x Magnifier = $115
Magnifier Mount = $60
___________________
Total Retail = $835
Just the sight = $660

If I sell it, I would want to sell the sight and magnifier for $600. You would save $235 plus whatever the tax works out to be.
