Holster for a Ruger Mark III Hunter?

Post by Mindflayer »

I am looking for a holster for my Mark III Hunter. Does anyone have experience with either:

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Dog-Ruger-S ... 910&sr=1-1

or

http://www.amazon.com/Ruger-MK-III-Scop ... er+holster

?

I want to take the gun out with me when hunting for squirrel, and I'd like one that can potentially fit an RDS or reflex sight in the future.

If I were going to carry in the woods while hunting, I'd try to find a holster with a cap on the end to cover the muzzle. I used to carry a Mark III while coon hunting. One night I slipped going down a steep ridge, went down on my butt, slid for a few feet, and then got my feet back under me and went on. When we finally treed the coon, I started to shoot it out, but another guy asked to do it and I let him. When I got home and took the pistol out to wipe it down, I discovered that when I went down on my butt and slid down that bank I'd packed the barrel full of dense clay. Good thing I was a nice guy and let the other feller shoot the coon. Moral of the story: I decided then and there to never carry a pistol in a holster that would allow me to fall and foul or plug the barrel if I was going to be in the woods with it.

I would check Sportsman's Guide. They have a nice leather one designed for it.

I have a fobus paddle holster for my MKIII target and I like it a lot.

I ended up buying the COWS holster. (http://shopruger.com/COWS-MARK-I-II-III ... nfo/50184/)

Took it with a few times in the woods. Comfortable and nicely retained. Didn't see any squirrels, though. Lots of deer. Sigh.

Sportsman's Guide had a leather one that would accommodate scopes.
