Nice AK - as AKs go, I guess.

Bummer was it comes with a 10-round mag, but that's easily fixed.

It does have a machined aluminum receiver, I'm told. But does that defeat the purpose of having an AK?

An Arsenal SAM-7R AK is very fine rifle to have in one's collection. My older Arsenal has a stamped non-Saiga receiver but I'd put it up against a milled rifle any day.

They are well worth the extra money, in my opinion. Is this chambered for 7.62x39 or 5.45x39?

I highly doubt the receiver is milled aluminum. Milled AKs are usually made out of steel that's been milled for the receiver. The original AK-47 was a milled version, the AKM came out in '49 with a sheetmetal receiver because it cost a lot less to produce.

A quick pass with a magnet would answer that question. But I would agree that it's probably milled steel.
