Meanwhile, In California

I just went into a truckstop outside of LA, and bought a few items. When I asked for a bag, I was informed that all they had were paper bags, which cost 10cents a piece. Seems that plastic bags are illegal in the county of Los Angeles. And apparently, the rest of the state will follow suit, come first of the year.

Incidentally, I'm headed to San Francisco. Anyone else see the humor in Abbas "Dancing Queen"coming on the radio?

Be prepared for some serious "culture shock" if you have never been there before. Incidentally, you should take some time to tour around if you can. Beautiful city.

Just try and avoid the Tenderloin district and most of Market street... and dont go out at night.

San Francisco is beautiful. We visited there 5 years ago. Funny story. I was carrying my toddler in a sling and was wearing a hat and a skirt (I like skirts) and a local asked me what country I was from! :hysterical:

Did a stint out there for 5 months in Petaluma and visited SF a bunch. Beautiful city. Weird inhabitants. Damn good food and wine though.

I did have to hit a hobo though. He was doing something private out in the open on front of children.

I grew up in southern California and lived there until I was just shy of 30. It's a beautiful state and I spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoors there. I remember the 60s and 70s when I was a kid and my parents talked about the great governor we had, and then myself voting for Reagan for president when I was old enough to vote in 1980.

My last relative moved out of there last year, so now I don't have any ties to the state. With the way their politics have gone over the last several decades, I don't think I'd be able to live there at this point. It's still a beautiful state, and I do miss the *real* mexican food.

From "Daily Reckoning":
..............................
"Certain San Franciscans, angry with Google, are taking to the streets in protest… and it has nothing to do with privacy policies or the NSA. On the contrary, it has to do with the company's pampered employees and their Google buses.

The company famously hires comfortable double-decker buses that pick up its employees and shuttle them to work. Today, however, protesters stopped the buses in their tracks, demanding $1 billion (yes, billion) be paid to the city of San Francisco for Google's use of the roads."
..............................

California has become the birthplace of nutty ideas, IMO.

Wow. I thought the 10 cents a bag was bad until I read that ridiculous demand.

Am I wrong in assuming that every citizen and business in every state pays for the right to use public resources when they pay taxes?

A lot of things seem logical when pot is legal.

Follows a tried and true liberal tactic: Take from them that's got.

I know it's illegal, but what would happen if every absolutely insane request from an individual was a stern smack to the face, and a "ARE YOU FREAKIN' STUPID!??!" Then laugh, and walk away...?

Yeah, wouldn't help "beating some sense into them."

@Dave: I used to work at a carnival. I'm afraid that there ain't too much culture, within our borders, that's going shock me, anymore.

@Dormin: I was hauling furniture to Frisco (or, as it's commonly referred to on the Chickin Band, "The Gay Bay")

@MamaBear: My sister likes to carry her babies in the same manner. It seems to be an excellent mode of baby transport.

@Any one who's listening: I'm still in this wacky state and I miss VA, lol.

Escaped San Francisco for VA almost 2 years ago now and have never looked back. In fact, I was only in SF for 10 months and just couldn't take it anymore. I went there to do a job and suffered through the crime, in-your-face drugs, fetish and "lifestyle" parades and went away as often as possible. I took solace in the fact that I could at least *own* handguns, which hadn't been possible in NY. The last straw was when I yelled at a guy for taking a dump on the sidewalk in broad daylight and somehow the crowd decided that I was the assh0le. He was "expressing his frustration with the system" according to one and was just a "victim" to others. I decided that day that I was leaving. I set my sights on VA, said a little prayer and a week later I started the interview process for this job. While I don't attempt to claim the title of Virginian, I definitely know why I'm here and not there.
