I piked up this little rifle today for my son to learn on, I'll let him try the Walther too, but every boy needs to shoot a rifle.

I got it for $99.99 at Dick'd, it came with a carry case, safety glasses & ear plugs with a case for the glasses & plugs.

That looks like a single shot similar to one I had as a kid only it had a wooden stock.

You sir are correct, it's a single shot and it was the only kind they had, I guess he can't mess up the synthetic stock too much (at least I hope not).

Hey, thats the way to start them. I've seen the Crickett but havent checked them out. I noticed in the pic that its got a button on the rear of the bolt that sticks out - when its ready to fire. Same as mine. I remember sanding and refinishing the stock on the one I had. I dont think we had synthetic back then.

personally ive heard good things about the crickett but when my little girl gets a little older, i figured id start her out with a rossi, single shot and that being because for less then i believe 250 i can get her the trifecta then she has a .243, 20 ga, and a 22lr, but back to the topic, i have only heard good things about the cricketts. and for 100 dollars you cant go wrong

Do they make those in a 17 caliber? 17 Mach II would be SUPER sweet. I prefer it over the 22LR anyday.

It's a nice little training rifle. I picked one up a while back for my Grandson. Got a good deal from a guy on rimfirecentral.com and couldn't pass it up. Now I have to wait 2 years before I can start him shooting. Every time he visits it has to come out of the safe so he can see "my rifle". I'm not a big fan of "idiot proof locks" but in this case I like the button lock that prevents the bolt from being closed.

My sons learned using a Marlin 15Y single shot. Very accurate and nice to look at. They've grown up and moved on to other firearms, but my wife won't let me trade it -- says she's saving it for grandkids to learn on. Oh well....

Keep an eye on the screw under the foregrip. My sons was backing out between 100-150 rounds. Great rifle otherwise.

A little blue Loctite on the threads will keep it from loosening up.
