When do you start teaching kids about how to fire a rifle? I am not talking about general firearm safety (like do not touch an unattended gun), but punching holes in paper.

I have a seven year old daughter that I think would be able to start with a BB gun (supervised of course). Is that a good idea? Any suggestions on equipment or how to get started?

My 10 year old daughter shot the 12 gauge the last two times we've been to the range.

The does lever snap shut? Can you pinch a finger in it?

Single shot bolt action .22 rifle is what i started my 12yr old daughter on...

and am lucky in that it was her Grandfathers rifle, so has family history...and as he has passed on, it is a nice connection for her as well...a bonus as she has told me how she can picture grandaddy romping around the mountain cabin we have, hunting varmints with the rifle, etc... great imagry for a young shooter in my opinion...

I stress single shot to start as i have been haunted by the mental image of the tragedy of the child at a gun show last year shooting himself in front of his father and an instructor,... it was an auto pistol, ( i don't know the calibre) the child pulled the trigger, and the recoil flip positioned the muzzle so that it was pointed directly at the childs head, and he pulled the trigger again... by reflex, by accident, it makes no matter, as the end result is the same...and putting myself in that situation just makes me want to break down just considering it...

Double cover safety, explain what is about to happen, do this agian and again until ALL parties are comfortable, and understand what will happen next...this is not a test!

I did, but this seems a little rough for a seven year old. Does anyone else have experience with this organization?

I bought my 4 year old grandson a Rossi .22/.410 combo this summer. Right now the shotgun is a little much for him but he has a ball with the .22.

it's amazing how guns are getting gender specific direct from manufacturers -
ex. never thought i'd see the day when sig released a factory pink anything ...
it's clear they want to attract younger shooters.
