I picked up a Walther P22 yesterday at the Dale City gun show. I want to get my 7yr old into shooting & I decided to try this gun out, i still may get him a Cricket rifle.


i took it to the range today to break it in for him with 150 rounds. It performed flawlessly.

ah, very nice. The P22 is on my list right next to the 10/22 to get for the kids to work with.

Great looking gun. What ammo did you use?

i like CCI stingers and i've shot about 3000 rounds with no problem. you can also use the cheap bulk ammo despite whatever you read online. if you have any problems, simply break it down and check the chamber to make sure there are no protruding pieces of metal left from forging. if you find anything just sand it down and you'll be fine.

I used CCI Miini-Mags about 90 rnds. Then I used federeal bulk from Walmart, about 60 rounds.

My son has beepracticing his stance and dry firing,(it's cute) and he asks everyday to practice dry firing. He's anxious to get to the range, so I may make a trip this weekend to The Range in Fredericksburg to let him get his feet wet.

I've tried all types, but think like the CCI Velocitor the best.

I thought it was unwise to dry fire a P22 since it is rimfire. I do it every once in awhile, but I tend to use dummy rounds for practice and function tests after cleaning.

How much does the CCI Velocitor cost compared to the other ammo?

When I purchased my P22, the sales guy told me it was okay to dry
fire as long as it was on safety. Something about hammer and stuff
inside. But I still got the caps just in case.

When the Safety is on, the P22's hammer does not strike the firing pin. It is safe to dry fire it in this position because of the hammer block. Snap caps will not make any difference IF the safety is on. I'd use caps if I desired to train with the safety off.

Oh crap, I didn't know anything about not dry firing the P22. do you think I may have caused any damage to the gun?

Short term no, but like others have said, empty magazine in, safety on, and you can dry fire all day. There is no difference to the trigger pull. I have one and use it for teaching all the time.

Hey 40shooter, I bought a P22 for my wife.



She loves it. I love it. My sons love it. Its just plain fun to shot. She had it on her hip at the picnic. Looks just like the one here in the picture. You picked up a great gun. Heck, I may just go ahead and get one like yours one of these days for myself.

You can get them at the show this weekend. They are about 29 each. Not cheap but its real nice to have extra Mags for it. I've got the one that came with it and a second one.

honestly, i'd already own one of those if the grip wasn't so small. great gun for ladies and young shooters though. the carbon fiber looking finish is pretty neat, but i wonder how it would stand up from years of shooting.

I wasn't able to make the show, maybe I can go to the one in Frederick'sburg when it comes. I wish the mags were about $20 ea.
