Ain't it funny how irony works sometimes?

I just read a post about how cowardly it was of Obama to treat our vets and fallen heroes as he has, and then I printed a picture of Biden and Obama. My printer told me it didn't have enough yellow toner.

That is a funny coincidence, but I don't believe it is irony.

.........................................

3a (1) : incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result (2) : an event or result marked by such incongruity

I believe it is irony by this definition.

In what way was the outcome of your situation completely different from what would be expected?

Immediately after reading a post berating Obama for COWARDICE, it was completely unexpected that the printer would tell me it had insufficient YELLOW toner to print a picture of our cowardly POTUS. The fact that it was also coincidental does not keep it from being ironic.

That's great! Likely it wasn't lying either.

I've not suggested in any way that coincidence negates irony. One of the most common examples of situational irony is a fire station burning down. The building falls victim to the very circumstance that is was erected to mitigate. There is no juxtaposition between "COWARDICE" and "YELLOW."

I think there is. YELLOW is emblematic of COWARDICE wherever American English is spoken. But if you think differently, so be it. Differences of opinion make horseraces possible. You hold yours and I'll hold mine; and I'll certainly bear you no ill will because of it. Have a nice weekend.

whether its irony or coincidence, I don't really care - its still funny...maybe I'm just anti-semantic
