The fact that identifying information about Virginia residents, which has been provided to the DMV with the belief that it was being used for the sole purpose of that department, is now being used by other agencies and being passed around from agency to agency without the resident’s knowledge could leave many unnerved.

Yeah, shocking.

At this point? Bureaucrats, Politicians, and Guv'mint supporters have won.

I'm a dinosaur. An anachronism. You should put me behind a plate of glass with the words "Break in cases of disaster, unrest, or Foreign Invasion".

I've been operating under the assumption that if one government entity has my information, ALL do. I have been assuming that for years. So this does not surprise me.

Remember when the VA DMV was making everyone come back in and get their picture taken? Remember when they changed the rules about those pictures? (no smiling, no glasses, etc.) No one seemed to care at the time that they were using this for facial recognition software (it's outrageous to be forced at the barrel of a gun to participate). Now that they're sharing that information, I guess any agency with enough money can put up a camera and track you.

There is a sign in the drive-through window at my bank. It asks everyone to please remove hats, sunglasses, and hoodies. They say it's for safety purposes. The sign is right next to the camera pointed at you. Me? I keep my hat on and put on sunglasses when I go to the bank. I don't own a hoodie, or I'd wear that too!

Claire Guthrie Gastanage, executive director of American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia told the Richmond-Times Dispatch “When we allow governments to do that, it facilitates and empowers things that we might not want to have happen if the wrong people get into power.”
