Who are these people that want "peace"?

One of the progressive/commies I have to deal with asked me "Why don't you want to live in peace?"

I flat out said "I want to live in peace, but you friggin' Guv'mint luvers can't seem to leave me the hell alone. You want peace? Accept there are people that cannot stand your point of view, and want to live SEPARATELY from you, and stop trying to shove things down their throats."

They couldn't leave it alone, and kept saying "We're all supposed to live in peace as one."

I retorted, "Bullsh't. In 14000 years of human recorded history at no time was there ever PEACE! EVER! We as a species love to be right, and in charge, and in turn there is always a group oppressed, and self-righteous. We have NEVER been a peaceful species, nor will we be. Even if we removed religion, politics, poverty, or disease... we'll fight over the color of our hair, eyes, or where we were born. We love the fight, crave it, hunger for it. We fight in debates, online gaming, sports, driving, you name it? WE FIGHT! So go peddle your utopia to someone who doesn't know the nature of man."

Dejected, and sullen, they just walked away.

And it made me think, It's these people who cause the problems in the world, not because they're idealists, but because they cannot recognize their own nature.

Peace is knowing there are others with differences of opinions, and then LEAVING THEM THE HELL ALONE!

"As one"? Are they describing marriage or communism?

Man is an animal, to reject this causes mental conflict. I've been preaching this for years, yet you seem to be the first to understand it too. :friends:

Those who think anger and hate are wrong are in and of themselves wrong. Negative emotions are real and without these throw the body and mind out of balance. These idealists seem to only think in absolutes and fail to see that it is alright to feel anger and hate and pain, but it is the overreacting to these emotions that is when it becomes wrong. To suffer is to live, only in death are we free of pain.

War has been the single driver of human invention and ingenuity. Once Grogg cracked Gugg's skull open with a mastodon femur there was never any going back.

Guns Germs and Steel is a really good read on this subject.

Kinetic, you'll love these two quotes:

“Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.”
― Robert E. Howard

“Barbarianism is the natural state of mankind. Civilization is unnatural. It is the whim of circumstance. And barbarianism must ultimately triumph”
― Robert E. Howard

Now, keep in mind, this guy was insane, and besties with HP Lovecraft, and wrote "Conan The Barbarian"

But... Those two quotes I have kept in my mind since I read them in my early 20's. I have never cottoned to "civilized" society. They have a leash on my neck, but never on my soul.

When I read the title of your post I thought this was going to be a discussion about our sudden love affair with Iran. LOL.

It could be. Think about the history of the Middle East, and what those people are still like, even after the attempts by the US, British, and French (to name a few) to "civilize" them. The only difference between then and now is that now the blood-thirsty warlords have military armaments at their disposal instead of swords and muskets. They will still murder, rape and torture members of other tribes in the name of religion. It's exactly what Rev and Kinetic are talking about.

You're talking Middle East, let's talk DETROIT, CHICAGO, AND D.C.!

Again, doesn't matter...people are nasty, aggressive animals, tempered only by our realization that by grouping together, and following rules can we achieve what we used to do by sword, and shield.

All it's going to take is a complete breakdown in cable/satellite tv, no junk food in the stores, and a loss of heat/airconditioning, and I guarantee you...

People's true nature will come out.

We saw this in NOLA with Katrina, and with Superstorm Sandy in the NorthEast.... Society, civilized or otherwise, is a thin veil of a rope holding a 200lbs pitbull whose hungry.

Not trying to start an argument cause I really dont care. But there is a huge debate over where civilization began and even the definition itself. It seems that Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and the Myans have a pretty equal claim to it. Some will even throw in what is currently Romania in the mix. Those guys being the Cucuteni-Trypillian.

From a Christian point of view, mankind is inherently evil.

The Good Book points it out in several places, and to date, I have seen no evidence of the contrary.

I cannot reasonably expect peace from a species that I know to be evil.

Yes, but it hasn't made much progress there in the past 6,000 years.

Middle Eastern civilization wasn't eclipsed by Europeans until the after the Renaissance.

But it was eclipsed, and in an inarguable way.

Everyone wants peace . . . on their own terms.

Peace to the middle eastern wack-jobs is no more infidels.

Peace to the DC, Chicago, LA wack-jobs is being able to take what they want, including the lives of others.

Peace on my terms is to LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE! Get out of my life, get yer paws off my parker, or suffer the consequences.

So, you see, it is really very simple.

Indeedily doo, but while we had cave scribblin's they had the Epic of Gilgamesh.

I'm just saying give credit where credit is due.

Edit: They also invented beer. So definitely give them credit!
