Do you want yourself and every coming generation to be a prisoner of the United States Government and serve as a slave to the elite few hundred people for your entire life or continue to enjoy your freedom and have the government be your servant?
Having had time to sleep on this, I come to the conclusion that these polls were set up to prove a point.
That being that the collective interpretation of the second amendment that the gun grabbers would like people believe, when laid down in black in white is absurd on the face of it.
These polls aren't even getting the typical 2 to 1 split.

It's the government who wants to restrict arms and they aren't interested in restricting their own. How often have FBI agents had legal problems carrying while on duty? Exactly.

How about a poll to test the support for declaring the Union dissolved on the grounds that the social contract has been broken if the Second Amendment is altered in any way to infringe the right to keep and bear arms? Wonder how the support for THAT would shake out.

The reason for the independent clause is to explain what arms shall not be infringed. They wanted to make it perfectly clear that military arms was the whole point of the 2A because that's always what government try and restrict first as it's a threat to the expansion of power. I think the reality is that regardless of how it was phrased we'd have problems today. The Interstate Commerce Clause was originally intended to prevent regulation of trade between the states because under the Articles they were waging trade wars. However, that simple concept has been perverted to mean that the Feds can regulate anything that affects or could affect inter-state commerce to include in-action! (Thank you Roberts for destroying what little was left of the Constitution).
