The Wife and I spent 4 days at "The Cove Campground " in Gore, VA . Went to the Range each day...What an improvement they have made since last year ! Really "CLEANED" the place up. It was great to shoot and not have to stand ankle deep in spent cartridges and shotgun shells. Everybody now cleans up when finished and a Range Official is "On Duty" at all times . The Range is open 9 am -5:30 pm only. They are dealing with Complaining Neighbors about noise and are trying to keep everybody happy . 3,000 acres and they have to worry about neighbors...go figure.
There is now have a parking area to the left and Skeet shooting to the far right. They filled in the longest Range to the same grade from shooting area to the target area and terraced and nice backstop . Also installed 6 steel targets at 90-105 yds. They also plan to level the total area to the same grade ( cut the upper area down to the lower area ) and increase shooting capacity . Saturday , all day there were at least 30 shooters at the firing line. Everyone was having a Great time and respectful to others. The Range Official did a good job and was helping everyone when needed and also did some shooting Too !
It was great to see a trash dump converted to a nice shooting range !

Was it still a fairly rough drive up to the range area, or have they fixed up the road/path?
That place was pretty neat. We really enjoyed our visit there last year with a few others in the VGOF crew

We enjoyed the camping , we were in Camp 1 site 20B. Nice view of the lake and close to the office. Only a few other campers in this area. Most of the tent campers were farther towards the back of the property. We were in our Motorhome and they only have 6 sites with water and electricity so we are limited to campsite options.
The road to the Range was much better than last August ...Not much, but they have worked on it some. It's nice to see that they are really trying to improve the Range .

The cove is a great place to just get away...We went for a week last October , pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. There were quite a few tent campers and a lot of Trail Riders on Sat. and Sun. Week days hardly a soul . We had two other couples join us that belong to our Motor Home Club that had never been there and they enjoyed all the activities . I really like it there being kinda primitive and nowhere as many "RULES" as a lot of camp ground we go to. If you have never been there , you will really have a great time !

The Cove is a fun place to be. I went for the first time about 2 months ago and then again last month. Had a great time and never witnessed the wasteland they had before as i've seen the pictures and videos of the past.
The drive is rough but I saw someone make it up there with a Kia Forte. I'm sure he scraped the heck out of the bottom of his car but it made it up.
If you plan on shooting Tannerite, they are limiting the amount to 2lbs or less to ensure no issues with the neighbors.
We plan to camp there soon and maybe get some fishing in!
Good times, Tight lines and Shoot the bull!

RO on duty? Awesome they needed that as much as I hate to say it. I'll have to go back now. My campsite was good the whole camp is a little to "on the grid" for me I like camping to be far away from RVs and such but I would go for the shooting or for a meet and greet.
