I was out at the Chesterfield Crossing Walmart on Hull, at about 5:30 AM today, and as I was walking in, I saw a young black man standing outside smoking, and OCing. First OCer spotted, for my short time in VA.

You'll see more. Many CC'er will pass by you and you won't notice them though.

Yep, it'll surprise you how many you people you meet that are into guns and sometimes carry.

Yes, I saw a similar incident on Shiela La. yesterday. An OC'er talking to a pharmacist about something and she seemed totally unconcerned about it. which to me is normal.
BTW, was it somebody from here I 'met'? Around 5pm, grey shirt?

I've open carried many times, and see it fairly often. The only time I've ever been bothered by someone OCing was when I was walking behind a guy with his .45 in a horizontal shoulder holster. It's never a good feeling to see a gun barrel pointed at your chest. Actually, I feel the same with CC in a Horizontal position - just don't generally know it's happening. I mean, one of the most important rules for gun safety is to always keep the barrel pointed in a safe direction...as in, not at me.

OP here. And then the very next day, I went to Carey Street in Richmond, and was sitting in a restaurant, and there was a young man sitting at the next table OCing. IWB, even. I've seen one OCer in PA, in the many decades I've lived here. And in 2 days in VA, I see 2 of them. That was very encouraging.

From a technical perspective those rules only apply when touching a gun. Guns in holster don't go bang. That said I still don't like shoulder holsters because it makes people uncomfortable and there is no way to draw one without sweeping yourself or others.

I've been visiting VA every few months for the last few years and have seen one guy OC'ing in a Walmart parking lot in Winchester. It was around 9 or 10pm. Initially, I was surprised, since I am from/ live in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts: A great place to move to VA from

(Jamaica Plain).

I escaped from RI about 16 years ago. Something seriously wrong with Southern New England politics. More heavily armed organized crime members than any other region of the country, but it is almost impossible for a legit person to get a CHP.
I was the only private (non-LEO / Gov Employee) I knew with a RI CHP.

I OC pretty regular, it to me, seams to be more popular now than it was a few years ago... I frequently run into ANOTHER patriot that is also OCing.. I make a good effort to meet with them, shake there hand and thank them for OCing. I have ALWAYS had a warm reception!

Welcome to VA from MA. I made that move in 1985 and haven't looked back. And still, I've yet to notice anyone OCing.

My brother had recently moved here from CA. While on an outing they had to stop for gas and he noticed another patron OC'ing. He says to my mother "Mom, that guy has a gun." My mother's reply, "In this state, we have that right."

Yep, and as long as we keep Bloombutt's minions at bay for a few years, it may stay that way too.

I hope you gave him a business card because he obviously needs some help.
